I'm a Partridge Family fan from when it first aired. I had every album, knew every word to every song, watched every night.. had the neighbors in our garage with the relate player and tennis racket for guitars, boxes and cans and chopsticks for my drums, the banana seat on my bike as a keyboard, and a true tamborine as we all played with the Partridges AS the Partridge Family, singing to imaginary crowds or garage rehersals.. for hours on slay.

I have to disagree. The FIRST season was the BEST! (Jeremy Gelbwaks was a better Chris Partridge. Had more and better lines) . However... owning Season 3 and hopefully soon Season 4 to complete my Partridge Family Collection would be the a dream arrive suitable.

No, it did not go to a 5th season, and I totally agree... I hope it doesn't remove as long to release the final.. season 4.. Would be nice if they include some interviews with the cast.. (including Jeremy) . Would be nice to seek HOW they recorded the music scenes for the indicate... (Pads over the drums and keyboards) . Maybe even include the "This Is Your Life" on Shirley Jones, as well as include the Tainted Unique PARTRIDGE FAMILY pilot they did in 2005. (It was better than The Partridge Family AD cartoon) .

The Partridge Family's third season was definitely among this series' best: the characters had gelled; the plotlines were solid (and more hilarious than ever!) ; and the music, like its prime audience, was maturing. I Esteem this season, and this display (can you say? LOL), and CAN HARDLY WAIT TILL ITS RELEASE THIS Plunge!!! I know this is a bit belated on my share, but THANKS SONY!! And I hope all we PF fans can all inspect forward to the series FINAL Season in the not-too-distant future as well! Thanks again to everyone responsible for making this happen!!!

I would have never heard about Timecrimes if not for seeing it's trailer on the Let the Fair One In DVD (another foreign film worth your time) . Both are going to be remade here in the US, but I doubt they will reach discontinuance to the originals. This is hands down one of the best time fade movies I have ever seen. You can whisper that the budget wasn't powerful and the film only has a total of four cast members, but with apt writing and acting you don't need million dollar SFX shots. There were many moments that caught me by surprise and the farther along the movie goes the more it draws you in. I'm not positive I got everything figured out after watching it the first time, but that's what makes these kind of films so spacious. You can assure the writer and director, Nacho Vigalondo, do a lot of time and inconvenience in crafting such a masterful work of Sci-Fi/Suspense. Compose positive you recognize this film with subtitles and not dubbed because it makes a tremendous dissimilarity in tone. Pick it from me, this is a must watch. Add it to your rental queue and prepare to have 90 minutes of understanding and wonder.

A enormous heads up, for those who are considering purchasing the video via on inquire. This is the dubbed into English version...not subtitled. I stopped the movie after five minutes in. Hugely disappointed by the non-disclosure.

As an ECE (AKA special education) teacher, I glance for different ways to pick up Language Arts to kids. I have the kids "read" the video as I ask them to try to ogle as many "popcorn" (word wall) words as possible. The kids I service are 1st and 2nd graders. The video keeps their attention and gives them some ownership over these words.

Don Knotts is a national fancy, one of the most naturally gifted laughable actors the world has ever seen. As large a Don Knotts fan as I have always been, and as many times as I have seen all of the stale episodes of The Andy Griffith Expose, I had actually never seen any of Knotts' classic comedies from the tedious 1960s. This Reluctant Hero Pack has helped alleviate this dilemma. Distinct, I could have spent four times as great money and acquired each of these four films on individual DVDs, but frugality is one of the many small-town American virtues Don Knotts' characters usually embodied. These films have been compressed so that they will all fit on one double-sided DVD, but there is nothing corrupt with the represent quality of this disk whatsoever. It's not like you're missing out on any special features on the individual offerings, either; unfortunately, there are also next to no special features on this Reluctant Hero pack - all you net are three of the four films' trailers. Mild, what matters are the films themselves, and you're guaranteed to have over six and a half hours of unadulterated laughter with these four Don Knotts classics.

The four films included here are not necessarily Don Knotts' best four movies, but each of them is hilarious. The Ghost and Mr. Chicken puts Don Knotts inside a shy house overnight. Remember how humorous that jumpy house episode of The Andy Griffith Note was? Well, this film is even funnier. It also features the magnificent Joan Staley as the object of affection of Knotts' character. His character, by the draw, is a truly reluctant hero, one whose heroics and honesty are set aside to an gross test. Then you have The Reluctant Astronaut, which I deem to be the funniest of the four films included here. Knotts plays a grown man who goes off - very reluctantly - to become an astronaut - despite the fact that he is paralyzed of heights. Once he gets to Houston, he finds out his job is actually that of a janitor rather than a spaceman, and he is forced to live a lie because he is apprehensive to admit the truth to his proud father. Objective when everything falls apart for him, though, he gets the chance to set everything correct - if he can muster up the courage to acknowledge the fearless call.

The Shakiest Gun in the West pits Knotts in the role of a newly graduated dentist who goes West to spread oral hygiene along the frontier. Along the scheme, he finds himself suddenly married to a mysterious redhead with all sorts of secrets. Despite his sure weaknesses in the gun-fighting department (they call this film The Shakiest Gun in the West for a reason), he finds himself noted as a fierce Indian-killer and hero of the West. At the time, he doesn't realize how undeserving he is of the respect he garners, but he does gather the chance to display himself a just hero in the slay.

The last of the four films included here, The Admire God, is unlike any other Don Knotts film. This was a film diagram ahead of its time, as it addresses issues of sexual behavior and censorship head-on in an hysterically satirical manner. Knotts plays a paralyzed publisher of a bird magazine who somehow ends up becoming distinguished as the country's premier playboy and smut peddler, the very standard bearer of the forces of the sexual revolution. This film has garnered a retroactive PG-13 rating, so it is not quite the lawful family film that the three other movies are, but there is nothing here that the most sheltered five-year-old hasn't already seen and heard in this day and age.

Why am I even trying to give a expeditiously description of these films? This is, after all, Don Knotts we're talking about, so you know capable and well these movies are basically guaranteed to be hilarious. Don't stutter yourself - especially at this imprint - of the enjoyment of four classic films from one of America's funniest and most beloved humorous actors.
This DVD is a accurate bargain compiling 4 of Don Knotts' most approved films onto one nicely priced disc! This DVD collects 4 of the 5 films that Knotts made in the 60s where he had the lead role (the exception being 1964's "The Fantastic Mr. Limpet") . The DVD is a flip disc with two films on each side. Side A has "The Ghost & Mr. Chicken" and "The Reluctant Astronaut", while side B has "The Shakiest Gun in the West" and "The Appreciate God? ". Another substantial aspect is that these films are in chronological order of new release from 1966-1969. In other words, these 4 films were released relieve to benefit. For those that are fans of Knotts' films or the live action Disney films of the 60s & 70s, these will be a rare treat to gain. Enormous fun, exceptable for the entire family (with the possible exception of "The Savor God? " which contains some serene adult humor, obviously tame by today's standard, but quiet maybe depraved for some ages) . Knotts plays almost the same character in every film and objective as the title of the station implies, he is at first reluctant, then the hero. For those weird with the films, here are some very brief plots:

Side A
The Ghost & Mr. Chicken (1966) - Knotts is Luther Heggs, a local wanna be reporter who stays a night in the local terrified house on a dare. After Arthur witnesses some spooky happenings, no one believes him, including his boss George Beckett (Dick Sargent) . It's up to Arthur to point to to the town that the primitive house has a ghost. Considered to be one of Knott's most successful films.

The Reluctant Astronaut (1967) - Knotts stars as Roy Fleming, employee at the local carnival where he dresses up as an astronaut. After his Dad sends his application to NASA, Roy is actually contacted, but to be a janitor! Luckily Major Fred Gifford (Leslie Nielsen with sunless hair!) gives him a enormous chance to prefer a test flight into status. Classic stuff.

Side B
The Shakiest Gun in the West (1968) - from the same director as Mr. Chicken, Knotts plays Dr. Jesse W. Heywood, a nervous dentist who you'd contemplate would be the last guy to pick up keen with gun selling poor guys. Along the contrivance he meets a lovely sharpshooting outlaw, Penelope 'Bad Penny' Cushings (Barbara Rhodes) . You might call this film a precursor to the Apple Dumpling Gang films where Knotts starred alongside Tim Conway.

The Like God? (1969) - definitely the most unusual in the bunch because of it's subject matter. Knotts plays Abner Audubon Peacock, owner of Peacock Magazine for bird watchers. Abner himself is a bird watcher and is on the verge of losing his magazine when a second party offers to support him maintain publishing it. While Abner is away collecting photos for his return lisp, he arrives home to get his magazine is being feeble to publish pornography! For me this was the most toothsome only because I had never seen it and watching Knotts within the context of the subject was hilarious. Again the humor is mostly for young adults and older here, the film was actually rerated PG-13 while all three other films are NR or G ratings.

I highly recommend the location to fans of the genre or style. For Don Knotts fans it's a no brainer. 4 tremendous films on one shameful priced DVD. I can boom you all four films leer and sound sizable. Also recommended with Don Knotts:

When I recieve this dvd. I was unbiased mad to procure it. I was not resure what it was about. The movie in the create of droll book style was very exciting but different from how the cartoon was created. Other than that I cherish the dvd very powerful.

I've been waiting for this DVD to reach into print for years, and now the wait is finally over. Thanks to Lionsgate for finally stepping up, straightening out the rights issues, and putting together a nice 2-Disc special edition of this classic 80s kids flick.

The Monster Squad, worthy like the Goonies and the Lost Boys, is a kid's flick at heart, but it doesn't reach off as if it were written and directed down to children. The flick stars Andre Gower, Ryan Lambert (of Kids Incorporated fame), Brent Chalem, Michael Faustino and Robby Kiger as a group of kids that have a secret Monster club where they pontificate on all things monster related. Rapid, two ways to waste a werewolf? Stumped? That's apt, everyone knows you need to shoot `em with a silver bullet. Anyway, the group runs into disaster when unbeknown to them the all too sincere rouges gallery of the classic Universal monster movies are converging on their town looking to kill an amulet that can prevent them from taking over the world. Sean, the leader of the club, lucks into a copy of Van Helsing's diary, which provides the instructions to a ritual that will banish the monsters into limbo. With the support of "Scary German Guy" (played by the always ample Leonardo Cimino) a concentration camp survivor and resident German diary translator, the group bands together to establish their families, their town, and quite possibly the entire world.

The film was directed by Fred Dekker and co-written by Fred Dekker and Shane Murky (of Lethal Weapon and Predator fame) with fantastic special effects and make-up by the legendary Stan Winston. This DVD was made possible by the director, actors, and fans who banded together in the past year through letter writing campaigns and revival screenings which proves unbiased how grand of a cult classic this flick is. If you are a generation X'er who's into action, fright or nostalgia the Monster Squad is definite to be a perfect addition to your DVD collection.

A passel of oddball kids fight the murky forces of cross in their minute neighborhood with the befriend of Frankenstein & Scary German Guy (an frail Germanic man that is a neighbor) . Huge residence, chilly special effects, some well-behaved one liners & some fabulous child acting all create for a terrifc family frightfest! Check out the teacher in the beginning of the movie. The kids call her "Meow Mix" because her head is shaped like a cat's head! Mammoth oddball writing in this movie makes it scary & silly!

Wonderful anecdote! I fair can't wait for this to advance out on DVD!

I would objective like to say that it is rare in this day and age for a theater audience to stand and applaud at the waste of a movie. That is exactly what happened when I saw Mr. Magorium.

It is also rare for a movie to captivate, not only myself and my wife, but my 13 year primitive, 10 year worn and especially my 4 year traditional all at the same time.

It was a truly magical movie. Dustin Hoffman was sparkling and brought the charm of Mr. Magorium to life; a performance matched only perhaps by that of Gene Wilder as Willy Wonka.

To those who suggest this is a child's movie. They are just. It is for children...of all ages.

A breath of unusual air of a family movie. Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium is simple in its storytelling about believing in your self, finding the magic in your life. It is an consuming movie; appealing without the typical hper-action, potty/burping humor or street-smart smack talk so overdone in every other "family" movie these days.

Charming. Brilliantly understated acting; not over the top in any scheme, no sterotypical characterizations. Dustin Hoffman, Natalie Portman, Jason Bateman and child actor Zach Mills played accurate to their characters, filled with wonder, believable. I can only imagine that the movie's negative reviews are based on reviewers having preconcieved ideas of what they "belief" the movie would be like. This is a simple Willy Wonka-esque epic, 90 minutes of racy entertainment without hype or preachiness. Insensible down and be pleased it!

This DVD collects the four-part "Spacious Brawl" account arc that ended season 2 of TMNT (or rather started season 3, due to terrible scheduling) . For those wondering, this disc is being released before "City at War" and "Rogue in the House" to tie-in with the unusual video game of the same name. Nice cross-promotion, huh?

Anyway, this is probably one of the strongest multi-part arcs of the series. There is a nice mix of action and character development, and the sage is better paced compared to Turtles in Status, Secret Origins, and City at War. There is a nice do up to the finale, with the Turtles each engaged in different location threads. Also see for returning characters that tie the overall series together, including the Triceraton warrior Traximus, the Ultimate Ninja, and the first appearance of fan-favourite Usagi Yojimbo (now Usagi Miyamoto, his unique name) . Bonus points if you can situation the monsters from "The King" episode in season 1.

A tall map to cap off season 2, with a nice teaser for the tale saga that opens season 3. Highly recommended for TMNT fans.

I can never terminate watching this DVD and my friends worship it too seeing it when they approach over they want to behold this DVD because Mikey is so amusing, and it also brings in a different side of 'worlds' that you're not staying in NYC, and the guys are always silly.

I have often idea upon viewing the prequel trilogy, the intervening years between the fresh and the recent. To be distinct, most of the criticisms of the current trilogy are adult in nature. We say ill of wooden dialogue and acting, convoluted storylines, and themes that aren't legal to the nature of the purity of science fiction. I was only five when Episode IV was release, so my only criticism of that particular film came in the do of whining to my folks that I couldn't scrutinize it again and again and again.

My point is this: George Lucas has his flaws, most of which are related to him being out of the director's chair for more than 20 years before embarking on his unique trilogy toy, but I consider, more importantly, that we as a filmgoing populace have changed as well. The fact that Lucas has been able to bridge that gap successfully (while telling the narrative backwards, to boot!) demonstrates the man's big talents. Perfect? Far from it, but damned appealing, nonetheless.

Which brings me to the crown jewel of the prequel trilogy. "Revenge of the Sith" is the second best film of all six, ranking only late "The Empire Strikes Abet" in terms of depth an substance. The acting is better and the writing, if not terrific, is helped by a game cast and a scramble that doesn't allow you to come by your breath. Hayden Christiansan, for the most portion, owns this role, displaying an adult gravity he was unable to prove in the dramatically clunky "Attack of the Clones" The rage, frustration, and fright contrasted with Anakin's heroism and confidence in the face of battle made for a complex character who you found yourself rooting for despite the story's preordained outcome.

The special effects, as usual, are outstanding, but for the most allotment support the film this time. There are points during the first two prequel films that you feel Lucas and Co. are simply showing off some of their sparkling modern toys, but in this film there is a more concrete sense of purpose.

Dramatically the film belongs to Ian McDiarmid. His performance creates the apt balance of charm and villiany and by doing so makes Anakin's turn all the more believable even though the turn itself feels a tad sudden. In fact, I dare say that I enjoyed McDiarmid more when he was under the guise of Palpatine than when he fully reveals himself as Sidious. The scene during the opera is one of the gargantuan dramatic highpoints of any of the six movies.

As for the flaws: clear, there were a few. I would like to have seen a more galvanizing series of events leading to Anakin's turn, perhaps some more perceived betrayals at the hands of the Jedi Council? I would like to have seen a more fleshed out performance by Natalie Portman, who seems to be more of an afterthought than a character in the third film. (On a side stamp, Portman is a terrific actress, but was, in this humble reviewer's concept, the most ill-served of the entire cast by the clunky dialogue that pervades all three films.)

The one allotment to which I didn't object that seemed to be the bane of many Star Wars fans is the scene enchanting the birth of Vader. I liked the allusions to "Frankenstein" for that is what Vader's narrative eventually becomes in the following trilogy: a search for his humanity, worthy like Mary Shelley's creation.
I also didn't have a plight with Vader's reaction to the fact he'd caused Padme's death. You have to remember that, despite the fact that he now has James Earl Jones' booming enlighten, he's serene Anakin and collected very young. It does sound outlandish, I admit, but it's detached completely in character. You also have to remember that Darth Vader will have a safe 20 to 25 years to complete his transformation into the cool, remorseless killing machine we advance to know and fancy in Episode IV.
In all, "Revenge of the Sith" does a terrific job of tying things together in a manner that harkens attend to when I was a child watching Star Wars for the first time. It's impossible, as an adult, to completely dismiss some of the flaws in the later films, but Episode III definitely comes discontinuance. It is a fine part of escapist filmaking that has heart, soul, and character and I would highly recommend it to anyone, Star Wars fan or no, looking for a fun time at the movies.
I never really understood what was so titanic about the Star Wars movies when I was growing up. I was born after the originals were released, so I was never a share of that "culture" that Star Wars is. I saw them when I was around 13 or 14 and fell asleep before the raze of all three. I never had the desire to really search for them again until Phantom Menace came out. I didn't stare it in theaters, but I watched it, liked it, and waited for the next one to advance out. I liked Episode II a lot better (I have to admit that half of that appreciation is because I worship Haydn), but I composed didn't really "collect" Star Wars. Well, I saw the triler for the third film, and I understanding it looked really noble. I also view it was going to be murky, but I didn't realize that I was going to shout all the device home from the movie theater! After the experience of seeing Episode III, I now finally understand what Star Wars is all about, and I worship it! This movie perfectly ties the two trilogies together. It is so emotionally grand. I know a lot of people say that George Lucas can't write diologue and can't screech anything but action scenes, but I completely disagree. Though some lines are a bit corny, each scene is treated with a colossal amount of care and sets up your emotions so that you react to determined gloomy cercumstances (I'm clear you know what I'm refering to) in a very personal map. I have watched all three of the first series since seeing Episode III, and I savor them so noteworthy, because now I understand!

It moves like a hyperactive, Fleet Gonzalez hopped up on rocket-fuel.
And that goes for the sub-titles as well.
They race by, as the movie races along it's ridiulous path, often leaving some lines totally unreadable.

The gore is ravishing & plentiful.
Once it starts spraying it doesn't close.
And the zombies explore expansive too!!
The jokes are low-brow, ludicrous, & silly,
often poking fun at its influences, its audience, and itself.
After 2 viewings I gotta admit...
this movie is absurdly rewatchable,
just like Monty Python and the Search for the Holy Grail.
(Imagine that rabbit scene stretched over two hours.)
I couldn't conclude laughing the entire movie,
it's tranquil echoing in my chest.
It's tedious, it knows it tedious, and it loves what it is.
If you don't mind wildly ridiculous zombie comedies,
And you want to laugh until you hyperventilate,
This one is a madman. (but it's definitely not for everyone)
So set on your rain-coat and fasten your oxygen conceal,
'Cause once the blood starts pouring, you're gonna choke on your beget laughter.

you know you're in for Bangkok Zombie Crisis.
SARS WARS is a wonderfully humorous, gory, irreverent and absurd zombie comedy with fair high production values by Thai standards. An outbreak of a mutant strain of the SARS virus turns the residents of a tower block into zombies, and a motley bunch of heroes ruin up fighting to survive. The film is relentlessly daft, spoofing numerous celebrated culture references (especially Raze BILL) and sending itself up with comments directly to (or about) the audience. The tone is cheerfully extreme brow - it's enormous to scrutinize foreign cinema procure released in the US that doesn't pander to the "arthouse" crowd (and isn't a martial arts film) for a change. Discotek media deserve credit - and sales - for their bravery in putting it out.

There is an audio commentary by filmmaker Al Reinert and astronaut Eugene Cernan, the last man to residence foot on the Moon. Reinert provides some insight into how the film came together. He went through thousands of hours of footage and managed to set aside together an 80-minute film. Cernan shares some of his experiences about what it was like to be an astronaut at that time.

New to this edition is "An Accidental Gift: The Making of For All Mankind," a 30-minute retrospective documentary. Reinert always wanted to ogle this outer space/Moon footage on the ample cloak and this was the impetus for the film. He got his inaugurate as a journalist covering NASA in the early 1980s. Through his contacts he got access to their film archives and found footage that had never been shown. This is an splendid peek at how For All Mankind came together.

Also fresh is "On Camera," a compilation of on-camera interviews Reinert conducted with 15 of the Apollo astronauts. In the film itself only the audio is former and it is nice to keep a face to the whine.

"Painting from the Moon" is an updating of an extra on the novel edition. After retiring from NASA, astronaut Alan Bean became a painter and this is a gallery of his work with commentary.

"NASA Audio Highlights" is a collection of 21 soundbites from the first ten years of the American area program. Some of the most eminent words have spoken during this time, including Neil Armstrong's immortal words.

Finally, there is "3, 2, 1 . . . Blast Off!" a collection of begin footage of various rockets taking off for outer position.

The music fully immerses you in its wondrous and enveloping glean. The fresh transfer of the Eno audio soundtrack really cannot be adequately described...it is truly a masterpiece, because it becomes piece of the film; it IS the film...it literally feels like fragment of the missions represented in this documentary. You are surrounded by these voices and machines and this improbable, astonishing secure by Eno...and it is truly an experience.

I've had the film on DVD for a number of years and it has always been one of my favorites (these guys were all my heroes growing up in the 60s and 70s and I'm a NASA buff) . With the modern Blu Ray presentation, Criterion has pulled out all the stops. As I watched, I was unbiased shaking my head at honest how phenomenal a disc this is; that it could be SO remarkable better than my fresh DVD copy (which was no streak either, and I have an upscaling DVD player too that made it leer spacious...but NOTHING like THIS!)

With the 40th Anniversary of our first steps in the playground of the Universe upon us, this Blu Ray makes you realize objective how considerable more there is so search for out there and why we need to return to the stars...and how great we need to win care of this fragile world (and each other) as well. Highly recommended...and highly inspirational.

Some device into Abel Ferrara's 'King Of Fresh York', two gangsters conspire in a microscopic cinema showing F.W. Murnau's 1922 panic classic 'Nosferatu'. Playing the scene where the vampire disembarks his corpse- and rat-ridden ship docked in England, it has distinct reference to Ferrara's protagonist, Frank White (Christopher Walken in one of cinema's colossal, lickety-split performances), a drug-smuggler recently released from a long period in prison, hoping to reassert his local criminal power. White refers to his return as 'coming befriend from the dead', and Walken's long, terrified figure and dancer's movements have some of the aristocratic grace of a well-known hide Dracula, Christopher Lee. Mostly seen at night, he gathers current recruits (modern blood) around him to 'feed' on. One mighty shot, after a prolonged sequence of posthaste violence, has him lit so his eyes shine like some terrorized undead; another has the camera following him through a railway site until it is stopped by bars - it can only impotently gape as White glides up the stairs to be swallowed by the night. The film even has as one of his opponents a cop played by future vampire-slayer Wesley Snipes.

But the 'Nosferatu' allusion points to something else - Ferrara's irregular absorption of soundless cinema. In terms of hiss, 'King' is a gangster film like any other: loud, repugnant, violent, brutal, lurid, hysterical. But it has a purity and beauty very different from the stylised melodramas of Martin Scorcese, whose equally bloodthirsty 'Goodfellas' came out in the same year. The first ten minutes is an unbelievable, virtually wordless, visual tour-de-force, not simply presenting the main character, his residence and environment, but introducing symbolic motifs that are all the more distinguished for being trusty, a section of Frank's world, and not simply imposed. Bars and grids (in prison, gates, bridges etc.) are the most prominent, signifying initially Frank's literal imprisonment, then his difficulties with the law and fellow criminals, and his frustrated ambitions (including a Guiliani-like zero-tolerance programme to shapely up the streets), but eventually, as we might ask from a Ferrara littering his film with religious iconography, something powerful more metaphysical, outside the confines of genre (hence the references to Melville) .

After this, there is a lot of talk - noisy, profane, amusing, aggressive, threatening - but the best sequences preserve this calm aesthetic: the night-club double defective leading to a car shuffle and man-hunt under a bridge; a police funeral in which a limousine hit provokes the scattering of black-clad, bankside mourners; the 'Le Samourai'-like subway confrontation between gangster and cop [although the film's very greatest scene, Larry Fishburne's Jimmy Jump ordering hastily food unprejudiced before being busted for slay, depends for its carry out on the conflict between talk and silence, his bluster oblivious to the quiet arrests playing out unhurried him]. KING OF Novel YORK is, for my money, the most important (and the most underrated) film of the last 20 years. It is a homage to the classic American genre - the gangster epic - with the depth and subtext of a European art-movie. It's a precursor to urban crime thrillers like Original Jack City and Menace II Society (Ferrara points out they first obsolete a rap-score in 1982) . An ode to drug-culture. A pitchblack satire of capitalism and its grotesque fallout. It's got a cast to die for, and a close-knit crew at the height of their powers.

It's shot across an array of locations including Sing-Sing, Donald Trump's Plaza Hotel, and various crack-lanes; it weaves seamlessly between an current secure, and the music of Vivaldi and Schooly D; the film is meticulously colour-coded (as pointed out by Cleave Johnstone in his book) to add up to a chilly critique of the red WHITE and blue, the all-American war-on-drugs; the tempo is expertly-managed, the movie simmers for a while then explodes into heavy-metal carnage, and then it dies with a dismal whimper. The scene when he rushes from his colleagues funeral is one of the most beautifully played-out expressions of vigilantism ever attach on film. Argo as a weary, deflated, pill-poppin' `old man' who has been there and knows the war is unwise and un-win-able.

As far as Im concerned, every sequence, every line of dialogue ("I'm not the dilemma, I'm impartial a businessman") is pure gold. Ferrara's is the cult-of-cults, his movies usually too far-out or nihilistic to accept remarkable of a following. But this one I bet Tarantino wishes he'd made.

And the DVD package...The documentary is not comprehensive, but it re-enforces what sets Ferrara's films above those of most of his contemporaries, the sheer degree of collaboration enthusiastic. Abe's anarchist mentality has freed up guys like Joe Delia (music), Anthony Redman (editor), Charles Lagola (production build) and Ken Kelsch to obtain exactly the sort of films they want. Kelsch makes the most telling statement towards the extinguish, which might interpret why Ferrara hasn't made a film for about five years (after a Woody Allen-esque burst of creativity in the 90s) . The third--and possibly the final--entry in George Romero's Wearisome series, 1985's DAY OF THE Dreary was initially panned by both critics and alarm fans. Many complained that, in spite of the worthy improved special FX, the film did not live up to the creepiness and the literacy of the groundbreaking first film of the trilogy, NIGHT OF THE LIVING Uninteresting (1968), nor was its state equal to the offbeat humor and satirical subtext of the second film, DAWN OF THE Listless (1978) . Thus, it was simply written off as another employ in shock value. But in the time that has passed since the initial release of DAY OF THE Tedious, many fans and critics alike have grown to regard the film as a wonderful entry in the series, with many claiming it has become their approved of the three.

DAY OF THE Wearisome is a claustrophobic character observe station almost entirely in a secured underground military bunker. The tale picks up some months after the kill of DAWN OF THE Tiresome, with the earth now nearly overrun by the flesh-eating corpses (one character estimates that the zombies outnumber the "normals" by circa 400,000 to 1) . Contrary to initial criticism of DAY OF THE Humdrum, the film's characterization is strong, literate, and fairly unidealistic, and the matter-of-fact socio-political subtext of the plot--though it might be a somewhat cliché SF theme--is actually a quite believable, hard-boiled reflection of the real-world tension between science and the military. And, yes, there is something for the gore hounds, too. Romero's long-time FX man, Tom Savini, does some of his most sophisticated work in DAY OF THE Wearisome, with some of the most homely grotesqueries saved for the final reel.

The performances in DAY OF THE Uninteresting are actually some of the best in the three-film series. Lori Cardille's emotive portrayal of the hard-as-nails heroine--a scientist named Sarah, who is the only woman in the enclave of "normals"--is fabulous, and Joseph Pilato creates a truly horrible portrait of a draconian martial megalomaniac. Richard Liberty is also delicious as Dr. Logan, the "enraged" scientist whose experiments on the zombies are so extremely over the edge that the soldiers have nicknamed him "Frankenstein." Actor Terry Alexander delivers a standout performance as John, a civilian helicopter pilot who is also a pacifist and therefore avoids assisting the military half of their troupe as powerful as possible. And equally outstanding is Sherman Howard's (a.k.a. Howard Sherman) warm and sympathetic characterization of Bub, a benign zombie that Dr. Logan has "domesticated."

In short, DAY OF THE Expressionless makes a sterling finale to Romero's bellwether Dull series, despite its initial rejection by fans and critics. The socio-political subtext, while not overly subtle, is captivating and realistic, as are the characters in the film. And DAY OF THE Humdrum offers up lots of frosty make-up FX for the gore freaks in the audience.

The two-disc Divimax Special-Edition DVD from Anchor Bay is a must-own for Romero fans. It offers a beautifully crisp and spruce digital transfer of the film--of even better quality than Anchor Bay's previous release--with two mountainous optional feature commentaries (one that includes Romero, Savini, and actress Lori Cardille) . The second disc is chock-full of other goodies, including an all unusual 39-minute documentary featuring interviews with cast and crew about the making of the film, a behind-the-scenes featurette, tons of trailers and TV spots, artwork galleries, and grand more! Definitely worth the mark of admission.

If you haven't leer Day of the Humdrum and you're reading the viewer reviews of this film, it's presumably because you're either a zombie fan or you loved Night of the Living Humdrum and/or Dawn of the Slow. But you're not certain whether or not to look this film because of the mixed reviews it received. My recommendation is that you should rent this film and peruse it twice and if you liked the film lift the Anchor Bay remaster widescreen version.

The set to Day of the Expressionless is simple. The world has been conquered by zombies, as seen in Day's predecessors. But this one actually has an fresh and racy state. Despite what some critics said about it, I found them to be unpleasant. The acting is also considerably stronger than Night or Dawn. There's also the infusion of current ideas such as an colorful and human zombie and amputation to terminate the spread of infection. The 2004-2005 will hopefully go down as one of the most primary seasons in novel television history, not because there was such a plethora of expansive original series-there weren't-but because it was the beginning of the extinguish of the dominance of reality programming and the rebirth of the scripted television indicate. She emerges as both a sizable strategic and tactical thinker, always two or three steps ahead of everyone else, always anticipating what someone else's response is going to be. Very rarely is she surprised by someone, or unable to response instantly to a variation.

The rest of the characters acquire a nice and believable group of characters. They largely plunge into the competent and outstanding categories. In fact, the only three I would not dwelling merely into the competent category are Enrico Colantoni, who is superior as Veronica's dad Keith. Though they sometimes disagree on things, throughout the reveal they are obviously the greatest of friends, and when they need to be, enormous colleagues. Keith tries to protect his daughter, but he also knows that she is someone of rather prodigious abilities, so he doesn't always try to stand in her design. He has a gargantuan kid, and he knows it. The only other cast member I mediate deserves especial discover is Jason Dohring as the speedily Logan Echolls, who at various times in the course of the season is sadistic, vulnerable, mad, magnanimous, valorous, cruel, tender, grateful, selfish, and romantic. If you don't like him one week, wait a couple of episodes and reevaluate. One bit of casting irony should be renowned. Francisco Capra plays Weevil, the head of the local motorcycle gang. In fact, he is a member of one of the most thoroughly connected families in the history of Hollywood, his enormous grandfather being the substantial director Frank Capra, his grandfather one of the spacious power brokers in Hollywood, and he father nearly as active in a host of tinsel town activities. So worthy for his outsider cred. Nonetheless, Capra, despite being the ultimate Hollywood insider, does a proper job as one of the school's abominable boys.

All in all, this was a titanic first season, with a tremendous series of storylines, one of the best season-long mysteries to be unraveled in ages, and a group of characters we advance to care for. The present ended with most of the loose ends tied up, probably in allotment an instance of defensive writing on the section of the production team. With a bevy of rather frightful cancellations in original years, a lot of writers settle to ruin a season as if they were ending the season. WONDERFALLS is a big example of this. We are positive to scrutinize more. Thankfully, UPN renewed VERONICA MARS, so we'll catch to notice the spunky, resourceful, irrepressible high school sleuth serve in action for a least one more season, and hopefully for more. And maybe, honest maybe the powers-that-be in Hollywood will realize that this kind of quality scripted television with long narrative arcs, and not forgettable, cheap, unrehearsed reality shows are what viewers really want.
I got curved on Veronica Mars during the pilot, which I tuned to on a whim. I notion it was one of the best written hours of television I'd ever seen. While some of the "mystery of the week" episodes were stronger than others, I was impressed that the threads of the over-arching memoir were kept going throughout the season. The last 4 episodes of the season, where everything started to approach together were moving. I really loved this indicate and was so cheerful to gape it renewed. I hope it comes out on DVD!

Chet Gould's classic laughable strip Dick Tracy got a design over in the 1961 tantalizing cartoon series.

Dick Tracy was the point man of this cartoon series. He assigned cases to his junior detective/comic sidekicks Joe Jitsu (a karate Charlie Chan wannabe) and Go-go Gomez (a lickety-split swiftly Mexican detective) . Both sidekicksa are voiced by Mel Blanc (the whine of Bugs Bunny) . These junior detectives combat cases with classic rogues' gallery of Tracy's villains like Flattop, Itchy, Mumbles, Prune face, etc.

These so-called sidekicks were so remarkable stereotypes. However this was theideal of most 1960's animation and cartoons. The aninmated stereotypes were normal for TV at that time

The animation is qualified and crisply done for 1960 TV animation, unlike the 1960's Marvel exciting pictures or filmation stuff with DC heroes (with Superman, Batman,etc) . It is fine in appealing standards, not unprejudiced lips consuming like Clutch Cargo. It was UPI Studios who also did Mr Magoo cartoons, so there was a sense of quality to it. In my view, It fared better than most of today's stuff tv animation has to offer other than Hanna Barbara animation, which to me was and is the gold standard of cartoon excellence. I consider Ed, Edd and Eddie for an example of the worse of today's spicy stuff. This DVD has no extra features, fair kindly dapper family fun. It is worth getting for a keepsake of astronomical 1960's animation.

However if you want qualified engrossing TV Tracy adventures, I am holding out and waiting for TV Funnies with eight small Tracy Episodes (which are unavailable for DVD at this time) . Until then, this will have to do for my TRACY fix.

At last on DVD, here are all 130 UPA five shrimp cartoons. Hailing from 1961, this series was created with Dick Tracy creator, Chester Gould as consultant. However, it's a very light, slapstick-style cartoon with the modernistic, minimal view UPA was known for. In the slack '50s- early '60s this was all the rage, as animators tried to fetch exiguous animation techniques to fit TV's runt budgets. At the same time, they had to compete with stock theatrical cartoons making their design to the runt veil, which had lavish studio facilities and bottomless wallets.

Hanna-Barbera would be the winner in the TV sweeps, offsetting slight animation techniques like characters running past the same tree or barber pole again and again and reusing heads and bodies by animating in layers (cels), with stunning dialogue, top notch yelp actors, whimsical character invent, audacious graphic style and a current paintbox of smart colors.

UPA is better-known for Mr. Magoo, whom UPA successfully transferred from award-winning theatrical cartoons to a number of TV series (which have yet to obtain DVD) . Shown initially in syndication and later as The Dick Tracy Note, this UPA series was extremely common. Tracy has an office job in this prove, merely dispatching jobs to his team of crime fighters: Joe Jitsu, Go Go Gomez and Hemlock Holmes (a British bulldog) . They may be considered stereotypes by some viewers, but the understanding was to pit diverse and exaggerated beneficial guys against the unfamiliar abominable guys who people Gould's comics. Usually cartoons took these ideas straight across from the movies. Joe Jitsu is portion crime-solver par excellence Mr. Moto, and incorporates the then-current rage for ju-jitsu. The Retouchables, the theme music cues us, engage the Keystone Kops. Rather than the black tone of Gould's strip, however, the series has the light, slapstick tone echoing kids' TV of the time.

The packaging is an dazzling album which opens to protest four one-sides discs. Mine came packaged with a free 64 page dusky and white laughable of Gould's first three Dick Tracy adventures (which have nothing in celebrated with the cartoon) advertising the opinion to reprint Gould's entire silly series. That may be a limited-time premium. At any rate, here's UPA's first entry on DVD; let's hope Mr. Magoo isn't far leisurely.

this is a lavish, incredible production, with a cast that is so comfortable with the language. They bring out the beauty of the words, and clarity to their meaning.

Norma Shearer, despite being more than twice Juliet's age, plays her exquisitely...I accept her to be the loveliest and most radiant of the cover Juliets I've seen.

Leslie Howard, who was 42 at the time, is gorgeous. With his perfect musical stammer and enunciation, he's a joy to perceive and listen to...what a pity that he didn't film more Shakespeare...a Howard "Hamlet" (which he had a vast success with on Broadway), would have certainly been a film savor.

Though I mediate the imaginitive and slightly bizarre Baz Luhmann/Leonardo DiCaprio version is unbelievable and a must-see (as is the fight scene in the Zeffirelli production!) what makes this George Cukor version so special is the poetry of the language...if you want to hear the words spoken as I'm clear Shakespeare intended, give this film a try.

It's improbable how often the legendary Irving Thalberg was allowed to construct M.G.M. "prestige pictures" that produced awed reviews and spotty box-office receipts. It's even more fantastic how often he required his wife, actress Norma Shearer, to star in them, to the eventual detriment of her career. As agreeable as Shearer was, she acquired a reputation as a star of stately, plain movies made to please no one but her husband.

The critical exception to Thalberg's bustle of valid Shearer failures was "Romeo and Juliet". Although it conformed to the norm by not making grand money, it was a very handsome film, far better than most filmed Shakespeare.

Norma was 36 when the movie was shot, and it was feared she was a bit feeble for the piece. The scrape was tackled by hiring an even older Romeo, 43-year-old Leslie Howard. The supporting cast was the best in the business- John Barrymore as Mercutio, Basil Rathbone as Tybalt, Edna May Oliver as the Nurse, Reginald Denny as Benvolio, and Violet Kemble-Cooper as Lady Capulet. George Cukor was tapped as director, and Agnes de Mille choreographed the period dance that is the highlight of the lovers' first meeting.

Production values were astounding, even for a Shearer movie. The creamily lit photography flattered the stars, and the props and sets were elegant. The exterior spot for the balcony scene took up all of M.G.M's Stage Sixteen, then the largest soundstage in the world; there was so noteworthy loyal vegetation that the building began producing its contain weather. The costumes were a bit over-the-top; those for the supporting cast are highly theatrical, and the star wardrobe is intended to flatter at the expense of authenticity (Shearer's hairstyle is that of a boy of the period, not a young woman) .

All the lavishness in the world would not have mattered if the cast and crew hadn't delivered, but they did. Under the tutelage of Constance Collier, Shearer turned in a touchingly tender Juliet, actually getting the best contemporary reviews of any cast member. Howard's Romeo was a bit perfunctory, but aloof managed a nice sense of mischief in the early scenes. Basil Rathbone's prideful Tybalt was the fragment he was born to play, and Oliver's Nurse crammed the maximum of bawdiness and fun into a portion badly lop to comply with the demands of the censors. The surprise casting- and performance- of the film was Andy Devine as Peter, the Nurse's servant. It should have been wildly incongruous, but Devine's raspy verbalize and simple demeanour were perfect for the section.

Two scenes stand out in the memory. One is the stately pavane being danced when Romeo first spies Juliet. Shearer's timing and subtlety attend her well here; she interacts with her nominal dancing partner, Paris, and with Romeo on the sidelines, keeping time to the dance and losing it, sending messages of worship with her eyes while her body attempts vainly to bear an appearance of propriety.

The other is Barrymore's turn as Mercutio; it's said he was drunk during distinguished of the filming, and that the acquire of his biggest scene conventional in the final prick was the only usable one. None of Barrymore's problems prove on film; his hooting, larky performance is a miracle of silly timing and not to be missed.

The film has its puny problems; no one was able to lick the story's inherent lack of action at the ruin, and the vitality of the film lapses into talkiness in a few later stretches. There is a lapse of judgement in one region where Romeo and Juliet kiss; the otherwise novel music switches to Tchaikovsky's "Romeo and Juliet", dragging the scene into cliche. And director Cukor later bemoaned the lack of "garlic and the Mediterranean" in the film's seek and feel.

It's quiet something very rare on film: Shakespeare that is well and respectfully adapted for the shroud, accessible to any viewer, and beautifully played. Of all the versions of "Romeo and Juliet" on film, this is the one that tells the epic best.

Near Dismal is one of those mountainous movies that it seems no one has seen. I hope this deluxe DVD will change that.

Reach Dim suffered in it's initial theatrical release due to it's resemblance to The Lost Boys. They fraction a storyline (Hapless young man falls for a girl who turns him into a Vampire, and he's forced to deal with her crazy running buddies.), and even a release date; Lost Boys blew Advance Shadowy upright out of theaters, but Approach Dim found an appreciative audience on video, and deservedly so. The cast is uniformly huge, especially Lance Henrikson and Bill Paxton as the lead Vamps. The script, by Director Kathryn and Eric Red, is perfect- we learn miniature tidbits about the history of the Vampires, but we're always kept at arms length from them. We peer them as alien and threatening, and they witness us a food. Bigelow does a gargantuan job, especially considering it was her solo directorial debut. The only gripe I had is the Vampirism "Cure" which seems like a Deus Ex Machina, but that's a cramped quibble. The Tangerine Dream win also made some scenes seem really cheesy...FAR from their best work. I consider an orchestral bag would have been worthy better, but budget constraints....

The 2-DVD spot is beautifully packaged, with a die-cut inner package inside the box, and a grand looking (and informative!) booklet. The film looks great; As usual, Anchor Bay does mammoth work on their DVD transfers. It also has a commentary track from Director Bigelow, which is kinda dry and technical. Disc 2 has tons of storyboards, a old deleted scene, a recent 47-minute documentary, cast & crew bios (Very extensive!), detached & ad galleries, and tons more.

Approach Dismal is one of those films that has flown under the radar for FAR too long, and I can't recommend it highly enough!

I get that usually, vampire tales - whether filmed or written - have to have a vast dose of grandeur and mystique to the vampires to invent them work (the "Underworld" movies; "Blood: The Last Vampire", various successful incarnations of Dracula, etc.) Even "From Dusk Til Dawn", which was anything but a musty hold on the vampire, had the creatures so monstrously impressive and in some cases so exotically alluring (ex. Salma Hayek), that Dusk sort of fit the bill too, in some odd contrivance.

The ploar opposite of the 'grand' depiction of the vampire is one that was very prevelant in the 90s and composed turns up quite often today. The 'lowlife' vampire, with many of the supernatural aspects played down, the charisma and the mystery often missing, very human in appearance at all times, riding around in beat-up outmoded cars and vans, and spending the daylight hours in cheap motels or the basements of bars instead of in eerier, more impressive haunts. Most of the movies in this vein I haven't really cared for (although "The Forsaken" - heavily influenced by the movie I'm now writing about, was a aesthetic superb witness) But one movie in this vein - and I absorb it was the first of its kind - really stands out, and that's "Reach Dim".

Basically, a farm kid (played by Adrian Pasdar) of about - what, maybe 18 or so? - falls in care for with a girl (Jenny Wright) of his beget physical age, before learning she's a vampire. Wanting to be free of the vampiric curse, the pair is aided by the boyfriend's father in an attempt to become human again, which leads them into conflict with her 'coven' - a clan of not particularly awe-inspiring, but scary, believable and highly uncertain vampires led by Lance Henrikson in one of his best roles. Well-made, gory, and emotionally-driven (romantic, even) "Reach Sunless" flies just to the top of its class and carries a feeling of authenticity with it - the diner scene nails the 'injecting the horrific into the everyday' theme to perfection. "Come Dusky" is a total success.

THREE KINGS is not for everyone. And it's not easily pigeonholed. Fans of categorization will disapprove it. :)

"What's it like? " they ask. You can't say it's a comedy, because plenty of people won't fetch it humorous. Can you say it's a heist film? Only if you're narrow-minded. An action movie? Yeah, maybe, but this isn't funny book action here.

Soldiers at the tail destroy of the Gulf War accumulate a lead on a hidden stash of gold and settle to get it and steal it home. What happens to them along the scheme changes their objectives and changes their lives in profound ways. Director David O Russell has crafted a movie that SEEMS to be aimless, changing directions with the wind, but is actually a movie with a definite destination, taking a more realistic near to come there. A generous example of this myth philosophy is pointed out by Russell in his obliging and illuminating commentary track: in one scene Clooney is rushing pell-mell through an underground bunker and collides with another man rushing to gain out. There's no "point" to it other than that these distracting things happen in actual life all the time, objective not usually in the movies.

The DVD's impress is beneficial and it's PACKED with so many extras (all of them captivating and worthwhile, too) that it's hard to pass up THREE KINGS for purchasing. Very remarkable recommended.

I was expecting a fun in the sun with guns and gold kind of movie. Boy was I surprised! This ranks up with movies like Saving Private Ryan and The Thin Red Line as a really luminous "war like it really is" epic.

It starts off fairly simply. At the ruin of Desert Storm a group of soldiers rep a diagram showing where stolen Kuwaiti gold was being kept so they go find it. What was unbelievable was the intention that the Iraqi soldiers actually helped them but would not let them wait on any of the locals. Orders from Saddam they said.

However, seeing the injustice being meted out by the Iraqi soldiers our four heroes (Clooney, Wahlberg, Cube and Jonze) choose to intervene. Things do not go well as Wahlberg is captured and tortured and all their vehicles are destroyed.

The torture scene is poignant. Wahlberg and his torturer have great in common: they are fathers, they joined the army to give their families a better standard of living, except that the torturer's one year outmoded son was killed in a US bombing raid and his wife lost her legs. When later on Wahlberg is rescued and he has a chance to ruin his torturer, his decision adds all the more depth to the legend.

Although Saddam is villified in this movie, the myth seems to steal no sides. This is not about heroes and glory but about the struggle that everyone has with their possess oppression - whether it is a tyrant, a dreadful job or tiring, bosses. There are some very touching moments and some mammoth humour. All the actors are very convincing (including all the Iraqi extras) and portay the ambiguity of people caught up in something out of their control.

This is a very safe movie and will withhold you thinking. The anatomical "shots" are an spellbinding feature but are insignificant against the storyline. A splendid movie to add to your collection and talk about with your friends. Loads of extras on the DVD too!

I'm usually not a fan of substantial, blowsy, overblown studio self-tributes, but this is the jubilant exception! At objective over two hours, the documentary is concise, well written, and brilliantly edited. Super-cool James Coburn provides the "teach of god" narration. The title is a miniature confusing, however. It suggests that the documentary covers only "the first 50 years" (1915-1965) but the program actually acknowledges Fox's history up to the note (although not in as remarkable detail) . (By the contrivance, you DO catch a brief discover of "Star Wars", probably the only footage we're going to examine it on DVD for quite awhile!) The "greats" are all here, of course (Grable, Temple, Power, Monroe, "Grapes of Wrath", "All About Eve", "The Longest Day", etc., but so are some of Fox's rarely seen peaceful offerings ("A Fool There Was", "The Iron Horse", "Sunrise") . The studio's foray into sound is a particular highlight - and proves that it was Fox, not Warner Brothers, who was the first to perfect talking pictures! There are astonishing rarities in this program too (footage of Marilyn's last film, Fox's 1950s TV remakes of their classic films, outtakes galore, mask tests, etc.), and the producers didn't vexed away from mentioning that the studio also produced its allotment of bombs ("Wilson" comes to mind) . Movie lovers will be gay to know that the DVD edition is pristine. I can hardly possess the record and sound quality - especially when considering the age and rarity of some of the materials. The DVD also offers more than two hours of bonus materials! (Mostly product reels, but consuming.) All-in-all, a well crafted, balanced spy at one of the last tall Hollywood dream factories. Highly palatable and informative.

When I moved to Hollywood about 5 months ago I did not know anything about the motion portray business nor the city where I live. As someone who loves history I started out to scrutinize profitable books on the history of Hollywood. Most of the I found where safe but dry. I found this DVD about a week ago and I treasure it. The DVD takes a inspect at the history of 20th Century Fox. The DVD moves at a edifying bustle and really looks at the people and the films that made 20th Century Fox what it is today. The clips and the photos in the DVD are gigantic also. It is a must have for any film or Hollywood history buff.

This trilogy site includes the Underworld: Extended Edition. Why effect a seperate gash fair for the box status (I don't reflect they did)? I judge it's apt to say it is identical to the already released Underworld Unrated Extended edition that's out on bluray.

So if you already have the other titles, no need to seize a box location that's basically unprejudiced packaging them all together.

But if you only saw one of the movies and liked it, you definately need to contemplate the rest.

I really like these movies and having them all in one sleeve is expansive. And even better that they are on blue ray. Cherish it.

The only things going for this self-proclaimed panic film parody are decent production values and fair actresses. The movie itself, which is not really a parody of anything but objective a limp comedy, is unimaginative and often expressionless. The attempts at humor are usually mean-spirited, too, and usually made at the expense of the female characters (who the producers apparently want us to glimpse at but not respect) .

Look, to carry over the uncouth parlance of the movie, I'm usually an easy lay with this sort of dead comedy: I don't need or query Shakespeare. Objective withhold things minimally intriguing, throw a few chuckles my draw, and I'll likely give it three stars and recommend it for some modest home entertainment. Nothing obnoxious with something amusing and fun, after all. But "Stan Helsing" is unbiased humdrum (the supreme sin of a creative work, in my book) and eye-rollingly dreary. I'm guessing that comedy icon Leslie Nielsen is thankful he was only subjected to a fairly dinky role in this production.

I'm sorry to say all this, as the actors and folks late the camera seem like perfectly nice people in the 10-minute "making of" bonus feature (though the script makes me wonder about writer/director Bo Zenda), but I have to call it like I stare it. In the kill, if you're looking for a fun shrimp fright comedy to fetch you in the mood for Halloween, let me quote one of Mr. Nielsen's considerable better comedies and say, "Nothing to gawk here, travel along, nothing to contemplate here..."

It looks as if the cast had fun making this movie. Unfortunately, that fun doesn't translate into a humorous film. Because I received a preview copy, I watched the whole thing, but had I rented or bought the movie, I'd have given up after at most fifteen minutes. At least this scheme, I know that I'd have been proper.

The record, such as it is, involves four friends on their design to a Halloween party. One of the friends is the title character (played by Steve Howey, who, it seems, is supposed to destroy "the six biggest movie monsters of all time" (according to the director) . As a result of various detours, none of which has any particular purpose except to back as fodder for jokes, the characters never originate it to the party but instead go through numerous allusions to anxiety movies, some positive (as in the character "Fweddy," a very miniature parody of Freddy from A Nightmare on Elm Street) and some not so determined. (In case you're wondering, the six monsters are Pinhead, Chucky, Jason, Freddy Kreuger, Leatherface, and Michael Myers.)

Unfortunately, the humor didn't work for me, and even Leslie Nielsen fails to effect this mess. Airplane! this isn't. Rather, it's strictly for those who judge sex jokes are automatically comic and can preserve a movie.

It's Christmas Eve and there's a blizzard that shuts down an airport stranding onboard travelers. Spencer (Dylan Christopher) and his sister Katherine (Dominique Saldana) are stuck in an Unaccompanied Minors room for the holiday instead of spending it with their Father. In the UMS room, there a group of kids (including Spencer) that sustain trying to collect out of the room bag into even more anxiety. While those kids are being chased around the airport by security, the Unaccompanied Minors that were level-headed in the room (including Katherine) secure taken over to a hotel moral leisurely the airport. Spencer and the others determine to set aside aside their differences and work together to pick up out of the airport so Spencer can pick up to his sister before she finds out Santa didn't bring her any Christmas presents. Will Spencer be able to near his sister before Christmas morning?

I loved this movie because it's hilarious and adventurous. It makes you want to laugh out loud and jump out of you're seat. It's the best movie I've seen all year! It will definitely, fabricate you want to search for it again. This movie ideally shows you a humorous Christmas memoir.

Let's face it, there is a subgenre of family films that prepubescents absolutely admire, the one where the kids outsmart the scandalous, bumbling adults. Every generation has had them, from `The Exiguous Rascals' to one of my personal childhood favorites, `The Goonies'. `Unaccompanied Minors' is yet another entry into this subgenre, positive to excite children into being even more wild and uncontrollable as we arrive this holiday season.
Part `Home Alone', fraction `The Mountainous Escape', `Unaccompanied Minors' mixes elements from the two, but puts them on the ultimate sugar hurry. When a blizzard hits the Midwest all flights are grounded on Christmas Eve, leaving hundreds of passengers stranded, most notably the `Unaccompanied Minors'.

So what do you do with a bunch of rowdy, sugar filled, and parentless rug rats? Well if you are a grumpy, "Scrooge-like" airport manager played by stand up comedian Louis Shaded, you lock them in a basement and save Fez (Wilmer Valderrama) from `That 70's Show' in charge of them. Unfortunately for the upper brass of the airport there are a few youngsters who don't follow like the other "sheep" and sneak out only to cause some holiday mischief.

What ensues is a cat and mouse-like sail throughout the airport as Spencer (Dyllan Christopher) and his newly found posse, the self proclaimed "UM's", attempt to place the Christmas spirit for Spencer's doubtful, younger sister. Of course some of the adventures along their quest are downright comical, including sliding down baggage chutes and a high hurry, Looney Toons-ish sled accelerate down a snowy, seemingly never ending, hill. Now ignoring the fact that a mountain-like hill next to an airport, which requires huge amount of flat plot to operate, is completely illogical, it does execute for an humorous scene in the context of `Unaccompanied Minors'.

Granted there is enough material to hold the youngsters more than entertained, including even the faintest hint of romance for the few who are starting to realize the opposite sex might not have cooties after all, `Unaccompanied Minors' doesn't always forget the adults either. Perhaps the best nod to the begrudging parents who have been dragged to `Unaccompanied Minors' comes from the appearance of "The Kid" from `Bad Santa'. As one of the rouge members of "The UM's" the young actor, Brett Kelly, who warmed Billy Bob's frigid heart a few Christmases wait on is succor paying homage to his traditional character by quipping more of the curious and completely illogical jargon that we have reach to savor him for. Impartial wait until you hear his explanation of what Christmas really is.

So if `Unaccompanied Minors' is unbiased a bunch of brilliant mouth kids, running amok and causing hell for a bunch of adults on Christmas Eve, where exactly is the colossal value for families to select their children? Well by then ruin of the fable everything comes together for some expedient old-fashioned fashioned Christmas morals. Miracles happen, families, current and frail, are reunited and of course our "Scrooge" character finally discovers the value of Christmas. In fact the sugar coated finale of `Unaccompanied Minors' is so sweet, and surprisingly fulfilling, that many of the illogical, childish happenings throughout the film can be forgiven.

In a plot `Unaccompanied Minors' isn't anything we haven't seen before. It follows in the same vein as its brethren wholeheartedly. While it may not be as beneficial as the films that came before it, `Unaccompanied Minors' is a surprisingly fun treat that the whole family can like. Who would have understanding Christmas Eve at an airport could be so mighty fun?

Say what you want about producer/director William Castle (The Tingler, 13 Ghosts, Mr. Sardonicus) but one thing was for determined...he knew how to own seats in a movie theater, primarily by forcing some sort of issue interaction between the audience and the film (at least in his dread themed features) . In House on Tremulous Hill (1959), he utilized a technique he called `Emergo', which essentially featured a skeleton, suspended from wires, coming from the veil towards the audience during a specific section of the movie, the intent being to alarm the pants off those in the theater. From what I've heard, it didn't sound like many were skittish, but it didn't really matter as Castle was a master at selling the sizzle, rather than the steak, as they say, and audiences flocked to his films...produced and directed by William Castle, the film features the merchant of menace himself Vincent Designate (The Waft, The Tingler, House of Usher) in the first of two films he made with Castle. Also appearing is Elisha Cook Jr. (Shane, The Fearful Palace), Carolyn Craig (Giant), Richard Long (Ma and Pa Kettle), Carol `homina homina' Ohmart (Spider Baby), Alan Marshal (The Hunchback of Notre Dame), and Julie Mitchum (Edge of Hell), sister of actor Robert Mitchum.

Price plays Frederick Loren, an eccentric millionaire who, along with his wife Annabelle (Ohmart), has thrown together an absorbing microscopic party consuming five, seemingly random strangers gathering at a frightened house with ten thousand dollars to each who dare halt through the night. In attendance, along with Frederick and his wife, is Watson Pritchard (Cook), whose brother, one of the previous owners, was murdered within the house, Lance Schroeder (Long), a test pilot, Dr. David Trent (Marshal), a psychiatrist, Nora Manning (Craig), a typist, and Ruth Bridgers (Mitchum), a newspaper columnist. Seems all have agreed to play Frederick's microscopic game for one reason, they need the dough, and if some crazy rich dude is willing to piece with his green for such a seemingly easy task, what the hay, apt? Well, the guests reach, introductions are made, and Frederick gives them the pudgy lowdown. The secluded house is like a fortress (steel doors and bars on the windows) in that once they're locked in (at midnight, to be right), there's no getting out until the caretakers advance the next morning. Also, there's no electricity or telephones, and the nearest neighbors are well beyond yelling distance. After a tour of the house, highlighting where various unpleasant events occurred (including a visit to the acid vat in the cellar...man, this set has everything), a few drinks, and some scares (the ghosts seem to have a thing for Nora), Fredrick passes out some party favors in the obtain of loaded handguns (nothing like being drunk and armed), not that they'd do anyone remarkable valid if there are ghosts out and about...anyway, midnight is coming so if anyone wants to carve out of this ghoulish regain together, they'd better score while the getting's safe...

While not my popular Castle feature (that goes to The Tingler), House on Skittish Hill is serene a hoot and a half for all of its campy, good-natured fun. The one thing this film has going for it, above and beyond everything else, is Vincent Note. No matter how base the feature was (which wasn't the case here), Effect always brought with him a proper sense of class and sophistication to the proceedings, especially factual of the number of Poe based films he and Roger Corman made throughout the 1960s for American International Pictures. The absolute best parts of this movie for me occur early on as Price's character is interacting with his wife, and we seek the pair have an provocative hate/hate relationship...here's an example of their often nefarious and insinuating banter they retract in gradual closed doors...

There are a few more agreeable exchanges between Mark and Ohmart, superior alone of seeing this film. As for the rest of the performers, I had no trusty complaints. Elisha Cook Jr.'s character did secure on my nerves after awhile, with his constant dour outlook punctuated by his persistent `doom and gloom' predictions. Drink some more booze, you rummy...seriously, all this guy did was talk about how the ghosts were going to approach and choose them all away. Perhaps this attitude was assisted by his excessive alcohol intake, but really, what's the point of accepting an invitation to consume a night at a house you contain you won't approach out of alive? The money? Won't do you remarkable edifying if'n you're listless, fool. If I was in that house I probably would have shot him impartial to be rid of him. At least I learned one thing...never invite Elisha Cook Jr. to your party and ply him with lots of booze as he'll turn into a dependable poison pill. I did like Ms. Ohmart, and not unprejudiced because she was a smoking babe with a sizable rack, but because she held her maintain with Brand, even if it was for impartial a handful of scenes. If you've got a hankering to sight more of her, and you like ookie anxiety features, you should really check out another film she appeared in called Spider Baby (1968), featuring Lon Chaney Jr. There are a few, minor scares scattered throughout the film (a crusty crone, a disembodied head or two), but nothing that will form you soil yourself...some scenes will execute you snicker, though, like the one where Pritchard chucks a plain rat into the acid vat, if only to indicate the acid is really acid. After some bubbling effects, a fully articulated rat skeleton bobs to the surface, indicating to those watching it truly is the steady deal. Yes sir, that be some considerable acid...the movie may not be mighty for scares, but it does have plenty of atmosphere created by Castle's direction, groovy, cobweb laden state pieces, spooky music, and usage of the Ennis Brown House in Los Angeles, designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, for the exterior shots.

It seems this film has fallen into the public domain (i.e. the copyright expired), as I ogle there are a number of DVD releases by various companies. I can't order for those other releases, but the one I contain, place out by Warner Brothers (it has a ample headshot of Sign in the lower moral hand corner and Ohmart in a nightgown being menaced by a disfigured hand in the upper left), looks exceptionally qualified, and features both the fullscreen and widescreen formats, along with a kindly Dolby Digital mono audio track. The only extras included are a theatrical trailer for the film and subtitles in both English and French.

By the scheme, this movie saw a remake of the same titled, released in 1999, oozing with high tech special effects. It was decent enough, but I level-headed liked the unusual better.

William Castle at his gimmicky best! A Classic, spooky Shaded and White, with deliciously devilish Vincent Designate as millionaire with a bored gold-digger wife. She wants a Halloween party with her friends, Note tosses a party all just, but not with the people of her choosing. He offers $10,000 dollars to five stranger if they will join him and his wife in spending Halloween night in a truly jumpy house. One of the 5 is a young Elisha Cooke, family of the musty owners who died in the house, and he leads them on a slay tour. To jazz things up, Trace passes out "party favors" - guns. And it's a run to rep out whether Stamp of his wife will be the last one standing. This movie is a grandfather of nearly every clichés, blooding dripping from the ceiling, murky mysterious corridors, a witchy woman floating around and vanishing - and the topper that organ music!! This is more like a Halloween Fun house hobble than a movie! Note is campy and has large fun with the role, with desirable lines, especially when fussing with his less than jubilant wife.

Castle originally devised this movie with "special touches" for the audiences, like ghost on wires gloating through the audience of people in costume sitting down beside you to enhance the fun house feel.
