I have been wanting to assume up this obscure movie for years, ever since I first watched it some 12 years ago. Unfortunately, up until now it has been out of print – even on VHS. I was un-willing to pay an outrageous heed for a passe version on Video tape. Now there is no reason to fret any more: Gwendoline is here & she’s on DVD!!!

The recent title of the film was The Perils of Gwendoline in the Land of the Yik Yak. It is basically a low-budget INDIANA JONES type of adventure movie, only with a whole lot more erotica mixed in. One could say there are elements of Monty Python as well. Brent Huff plays a Harrison Ford wannabe. He has a huge physique for an adventure movie, but he’s not a particularly qualified actor. The third major character is Gwendoline’s sidekick / friend, Beth (played by French actress Zabou) .

The overwhelming reason to consume this DVD may be summed up in 3 words: Tawny Kitaen topless! While she has stripped down in a few other movies (such as WITCHBOARD), one needs to have the quit button on the DVD remote handy to bag a marvelous survey. Not so with this film. She is topless throughout most of the 2nd half of the film – and that’s a very advantageous thing!!!

I can’t for the life of me understand why Tawny has not had a more robust acting career or why she didn’t get many more movies. For one thing, there have not been too many female redhead movie stars. Tawny is graceful and there are a few scenes in this film where she is absolutely delicate – to the extent that she took my breath away. She is also a better actress than a mountainous many women in Hollywood.

To be clear, this is a very corny movie. Tawny and Zabou are favorable actors; the rest of the cast are all a bit stilted. I absorb it was originally in French as the people all suffer from dubbing-man’s disease. However, it is also a very fun movie, and I had forgotten unprejudiced how cute Zabou is.

So, if you are even a remote fan of Tawny Kitaen you need to JUMP at the opportunity to win this one. It’s a feel gracious movie and Tawny is the one who will making you feel splendid!

Despite what Leonalrd Maltin says, this film, though a French production, is based on a silly strip created in America by an English-Australian, John Coutts (aka John Willie), which first appeared in his amusingly erotic fetish publication “Bizarre” in the slow ’40’s-early’50’s. The title was “The Adventures of Sweet Gwendoline” and has recently been released in a deluxe hardcover collection. The novel chronicle eager the heroine constantly getting captured by the villains trying to prevent a horse from being race in a rush to build the family farm, and a mysterious bob-cut agent keeps on helping her out. The whole point of the amusing and its sequels appears to be showing impossibly sexy women in bondage and sexy clothing. This film keeps the names of some of the characters, borrows some concepts from “Bizarre,” and does assign the heroine in unsafe predicaments, but basically goes its gain blueprint in theme and myth.

In the film, our 1930’s heroine, along with her faithful French maid (who wears the bob-cut), are seeking a rare butterfly that her gradual entymologist father disappeared trying to earn. Their adventures grasp them to a steamy, slimy, decadent Asian port city where they meet a tough, world weary, cynical mercenary who rescues them from an unscrupulous gangster. They proceed through jungles and deserts meeting cannibals, river pirates, and other dangers, until they bag a hidden civilization of women. To say what happens next would give away too worthy and besides, the shock of the bizzarre is half the fun of the movie. Suffice it to say that there is powerful nudity and various forms of imprisonment, bondage, restraint, and gladiatorial combat (even a human-powered chariot bustle) . It is all very French it its creation of scenes, locations, and cultures. It’s as if obvious elements of venerable movies that were done but not considered very significant really caught the imagination of French fimakers and now they were trying to execute their absorb version.

Many of the actors obviously were not speaking English during filming, and its splendid positive that the film was completely dubbed. This does procure a slight distracting.

This movie plays occasionally on TV, where every bare breast must be edited out. This makes the waste of the film very choppy. To do up for this lost time, the TV version includes some extra dialogue that makes the character development slightly more believable, and some extra footage that adds some comedy. The video tape lacks this dialogue and footage.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Gwendoline – Unrated Director’s Cut! Click Here

Old fans of the humorous probably already know this film exists, it having recieved a lot of attention from the bondage and fetish community. Novel fans of the droll tantalizing about this film should be warned that the style and frequency of the bondage and restraint is very different from the comic; focused a lot more on the wierd sci-fi dungeon attractive and mostly in the last quarter of the movie, rather than the broken-down damsel-in-distress style. This was one of Tawney Kitaen’s first movies and the filmakers wanted her so distinguished they were willing to scale down the sex and bondage to please her.

Few people would call this a “capable” movie, though many people would luxuriate in it. If you want an staunch “pleasant” movie, subtract one star from this review. However, ther is plenty of stuff that will develop an audience react: nudity, violence, blood, corny dialogue, terrible dubbing, tall production value, etc. If you indulge in this sort of thing, add a star.

Hailed as a cult classic by many, John Carpenter’s “Speed from Fresh York” is finally available in a more-than-appropriate DVD edition that does the film justice. A gloomy movie filled with trouble, action, suspense, and even humor, this is the classic that gave birth to the ultimate outlaw and anti-hero; Snake Plissken. Now, you can relive the movie like never before.

In a post-apocalyptic world filled with crime and violence, the entire city of Manhattan has been transformed into a prison–a death sentence to most. Here, the prisoners are sent once they are banned from society and are forced to stop a life sentence to fight on their acquire. A crisis is before the people who are in charge of the prison, as the President has been kidnapped and is being held hostage by the very people they dedicated their lives to lock up. The only chance they have is a old war hero turned outlaw, Snake Plissken. They manufacture him a deal that if he can bring abet the President alive, all of the charges against him will be dropped. However, there’s yet another catch; the main man in charge of the prison has injected Plissken with an explosive blueprint that will be the slay of him in less than 24 hours should he not be successful, insuring that he won’t “waft” the scene. All of this leads to an spirited and thrilling cult classic that is loved by many.

John Carpenter has done a terrific job of painting a shadowy and bleak portray of law enforcement as we know it. At the same time, he does an generous job of creating a successful and subtle satire of law and authority. The script is always clever and surprising. While the movie might be a miniature dated, it peaceful does not occupy away anything from the raw accomplish the movie has on us. Kurt Russell is improbable as the mono-toned “Snake Plissken.” He makes the role his believe and stands out as one of our celebrated anti-heroes in film. All of the honest ingredients to form a successful and though-provoking film are there.

This recent DVD edition is a lot better than the previous one. The describe has been remastered in high-definition, which truly stands out as an accomplishment. The sound is decent, but we must support in mind that this is an former movie and the sound can only be restored so distinguished. Extras included are commentaries, photo galleries, an odd droll book, featurettes, trailers, the deleted scene of the fresh opening; the bank robbery, and more. I can allege you for obvious that I am distinguished more gay with this edition of the film.

“Hasten from Current York” is definitely one of those films that stands out from the rest. It is a cult classic for a reason, and that reason is undeniable. While it may be overlooked by some, the ones who really enjoy it for what it is benefits a mammoth amount of deal from it. If you’re looking for an entertaining thrill plod with action, suspense, and humor, this is the one to check out. A satisfactory film on every front.

Back in 1981, John Carpenter released a film, plot in 1997, that depicted a somewhat bleak future for the United States in that the crime rate had risen to the point where it was valuable to turn Fresh York City into a maximum security prison by enclosing the island in giant, concrete walls, installing landmines on the access bridges, and providing constant surveillance with the threat of death for any that try to hurry. Felons convicted and sent to this prison are given the option of execution rather than being forced to try and survive in this hellish, nightmare environment. Truly only the strongest and most ruthless survive tedious these walls. The female narration, done by Carpenter well-liked Jamie Lee Curtis, at the beginning ends with the ominous line, “Once you go in, you never reach out.”

After this is position up, we learn that, while en route to an extremely principal conference, the president’s plane has been hijacked, and is crashed inside the prison. The inmates recover the president, and threatening to destroy him if any attempt is made to release him. A idea is formulated, one including the recently captured, ex-military, now convicted, criminal Snake Plisskin (Kurt Russell) to send him in, alone, and try to bring the president out alive, offering him a elephantine pardon should he succeed. Only plight is, due to time constraints, of the conference, Snake only has 24 hours to complete this mission, if he accepts it. Another minor glitch…without his vivid it, diminutive implants are inserted into Snake’s neck in case he decided to skip out, and are plot to go off unless Snake can recover the president and return him safely within the time allotted.

This has always been one of my common movies. It brings to life the perfect anti-hero, the outlaw. We’ve seen and loved this type of character before, like in the Clint Eastwood western movies of the 60’s. America loves an outlaw, and John Carpenter has brought the character into the future. Hurry From Unusual York is an top-notch example of a outrageous budget movie that is really well made, from the realistic sets and scenery, characters, casting, scripting, direction, and music, all of which was detached by John Carpenter himself. Kurt Russell plays Snake so perfectly that you’ll never characterize anyone else in the role. Other actors that provide amazing performances, many of which Carpenter uses in his later films, are Harry Dean Stanton, Donald Pleasance, Adrienne Barbeau, Ernest Borgnine, Lee Van Cleef, and Tom Atkins. And let’s not forget Isaac Hayes as The Duke of Modern York, leader of the most worthy gang within the prison, and the one holding the president in hopes of using him to run. Another thing is that this movie moves. There is no plodding, the place is clearly defined and drives the movie to its’ satisfying conclusion.

The special features included in this special edition DVD are many, and listed thoroughly on the product page. Included is the eleven-minute sequence arresting Snake, a bank robbery, and subsequent seize that led him to be sentenced to the prison. This was only available before on the laserdisc version, so I am really contented it made it here. After watching it and listening to the commentary, you’ll understand why it was sever from the movie, but the gist is that it humanized the character of Snake too worthy. Also included from the laserdisc version is a full-length commentary by John Carpenter and Kurt Russell. Many commentaries I search for tend to be dry and tedious, but it was fantastic listening to these two talk about scenes and reminisce. They go into big detail, all while keeping it lively. Some of the other extras are nice, but probably not for everyone, like the mini laughable book and the additional commentary by producer Deborah Hill and production designer Joe Alves. It’s a bit dry and insensible, and probably only would appeal to the more hardcore fans. And last but not least is the quality of the represent. It looks pretty and crisp, better than I have ever seen it. All in all, this release is truly befitting of the title ‘Special Edition’. This movie was followed up in 1996 by a somewhat disappointing sequel called Flee From LA. The elements were dazzling distinguished there for that one, but the gritty edginess that made Elope From Fresh York so extraordinary fair wasn’t. Maybe too powerful time had passed between the movies.

My 1 year-old cat, Bob, got this DVD for Christmas and he absolutely loves it! As soon as he started hearing the nature noises he came over, sat in front of the TV and soon was pawing at the veil, trying to find the butterflies. At one point I found him sitting on top of the tv, trying to accept one of the dangling strings!

I would highly recommend this DVD to cat owners. As I said, my Bob loves it – as a matter of fact, now he comes running every time he hears me turn on the tv, thinking we’re going to see his dvd!

Another aesthetic documentary by David Grubin. Mr. Grubin is the finest documentary filmmaker working today, and that includes Ken Burns. David Strathairn does a astonishing job portraying Dr. Oppenheimer. The interviews with those who knew Oppie are agreeable and each does a radiant job in adding layers to this complicated narrative of an fantastic man. The interviews with the biographers (Martin Sherwin, Priscilla McMillan, and Herbert York) are especially insightful. The reveal concentrates on only one of the “expansive things” in Robert’s life — his role as scientific advisor after the war, although his Manhattan project work is also excellently described. His childhood is briefly but nicely sketched. Even his physics before the war is touched on, although puny is made of his bringing novel physics fully into America (he was far more than fair a sparkling professor at Berkeley) .

Buy,Download, Or Stream American Experience: The Trials of J. Robert Oppenheimer! Click Here

It makes sense to concentrate on his “trial” because that is where most of the drama lies. That is where he is most clearly seen as a victim. It even touches a small on his self-inflicted wounds, especially in his nasty relationship with Truman and Eisenhower and their administrations. Robert was loved by physicists for his nurturing of fresh physics and was loved by the nation, for a while, with his Manhattan Project successes. But his guilt was so excessive that it truly unhinged him despite his spacious intellect. His tactlessness with indispensable people is only briefly hinted at. He made enemies, boy did he!

His personal life is slightly touched on. Robert objective wasn’t the type of person who could function well in a political setting. He was ill-suited to being a scientific advisor — his only advantage was his brilliance scientifically. But the decisions Truman and Eisenhower had to effect were not, fundamentally, scientific decisions. They were national security decisions, and Robert had no background at all in concept national security.

Buy,Download, Or Stream American Experience: The Trials of J. Robert Oppenheimer! Click Here

This is the biggest weakness of Grubin’s fable. Robert gyrated wildly in opining on many aspects of national security and he never gained the trust of those who he was advising. His choices in preparing for his “trial” were tactically horrendous. Compare him to, for example, Oliver North, who battled mightily in front of Congress and the nation. North knew how to fight on a political stage. Oppie didn’t. He let himself be tortured — fair like he did in childhood that time at summer camp.

Be distinct to read Kai Bird’s and Martin Sherwin’s “American Prometheus” and Richard Rhodes’ “The Making of the Atomic Bomb” and “Dismal Sun”.

David Strathaim is the perfect actor to play the beleaguered Robert Oppenheimer, even resembling him physically. I wish they had included the poignant episode where walking in the desert after the explosion of the first atomic bomb; a turtle crosses his blueprint. He picks it up to bring home to his daughter. After a while he stops, turns around and goes wait on and places it again precisely where he took it with a narrate that he has already done enough afflict to the world. This, for me has always summed up his conflict – building the bomb and as the film is careful to point out in several instances helping and advising how to plunge the bomb to fabricate the most destruction.

What and where the hearings occurred that took his clearance away and seemed to waste him emotionally are described and recreated. Using transcripts of the trials Oppenheimer’s problems with the communist witch hunt are shown. Using staunch pictures of Oppenheimer and then the recreations of him by David Strathaim we gaze the aesthetic details of his mind and how it worked. What really comes out is Oppenheimer`s naivety in how his connections with communist party members would affect him.

It is enchanting and I wish they could have made clearer why General Groves chose him over noteworthy incredulity to head the Manhattan Project.

As with so many films of this genera the `talking heads’ can be distracting and or tedious. I have especially found that students in school have an marked abominate to this exercise of someone looking at the camera explaining their experiences. I have to admit they could give these interviewees their bit of `fame’ and then expend their narration over pictures and films rather than sitting and watching someone talking to the camera.

However, as with most DVD’s of the American Experience series the subject is well covered with expansive accuracy and a high interest factor to those who wish to learn more about history.

There are director’s comment in the extras, explaining who Oppenheimer was and what happened to him. A teacher’s guide is included by inserting the DVD into a computer

I can’t deem of a grand enough cynic who can dismiss the charms of this movie. On my list, Paper Moon qualifies as one of the best comedies ever made, a mixture of childlike wonder and wry sarcasm, simultaneously collected in its yarn come (thanks to improbable understated camerawork) and intimate.

The script has no faults. Scenes hurtle forward at a brisk but never hyper slump, every moment pregnant with character development and spirited dialogue. Ryan and Tatum O’Neal’s exchanges are pristine in their laughable timing, side-splitting and touching at the same time, effortlessly exploiting the chemistry between father and daughter. Their scenes in the car are so hilarious and endearing that you’d wish you could slither with them for hours longer. And the film is rich in period flavour, from the stark black-and-white photography to the music to every character, evoking a sense of longing for a more innocent age without ever lapsing into downright nostalgia. The themes — the vagabond heart which can’t stand calm, growing up, identity, friendship — ring as upright today as they always did.

I saw this movie when I was quite young and it’s never lost its magical believe on me. View it again even if you have already; you will inspect something original every time.

Adapted from the matchless modern “Addie Pray” by Joe David Brown, Paper Moon is area in the Midwest/dustbowl during the Mountainous Depression/Roosevelt era. One-of-a-kind directing by Peter Bogdanovich, elegant unlit & white cinematography, a broad musical bag with snippets of outmoded time radio shows like Fibber McGee & Molly, Jack Benny and a host of others.

Real-life father & daughter duo, Ryan & Tatum O’Neil team up in this gem of a movie.

Ryan plays Moses Pray. A slick, sliver-tongued, gold toothed, travelling huckster & who always has a current con to turn up his sleeve such as door to door Bible selling to recently widowed women, bootlegging, short changing, and a “car swappin’ wrasslin’ match” between Moses and a very young Randy Quaid. Tatum plays Addie and garnered the coveted Oscar for her performance at the tender age of 10. Addie decides to salvage in on many of the cons and becomes quite a prolific short change artist. Addie decides on her occupy to select Moses’ last name and disappear with him under the guise as his daughter. In one of the best scenes in the movie they deal with whether or not Addie is Moses’ illegitimate daughter. That scene is situation in a diner while drinking NeHi’s and eating Coney Islands. Addie is determined that Moses is, indeed, her father as she states, “We got the SAME jaw!” Moses responds and says, “I know a lady who has the jaw of a bullfrog but that doesn’t mean that she’s the damn things mother!” Addie asks Moses, “You meet my mamma in a barroom? ” (implying that her mamma was a prostitute) . Moses comes true relieve asking Addie, “You contemplate that unprejudiced because a man meets a woman in a barroom means that they secure a baby? ” Ryan and Tatum’s bantering repartee is natural, hilarious and touching all at the same time.

The Prays descend “prey” to a con played on them (well, Moses anyway) as the film progesses, by a hootchie-cootchie sideshow carnival dancer/prostitute named Miss Trixie Delight, adeptly played by Madelyn Kahn who was also nominated for an Oscar. The sneaky and a diminutive jealous Addie deals with Miss Trixie in her hold time and also helps out Miss Trixie’s maid, Imogene and gives her money to return wait on to her family.

It is probably inevitable that American audiences will compare “Mibu gishi den” (“When the Last Sword is Drawn”) with “The Last Samurai,” in that both films deal the Meiji restoration. This is also a similarity between the two in that this 2003 Japanese film from director Yojiro Takita (“Komikku zasshi nanka iranai,” “Onmyoji”) also is concerned with a character learning the right meaning of being a samurai. The incompatibility is that instead of an American mercenary played by Tom Hover it is a city samurai, Hajime Saito (Koichi Sato), who learns great from Kanichiro Yoshimura (Kiichi Nakai), who he dismisses at first meeting as a “country” samurai.

Buy,Download, Or Stream When the Last Sword Is Drawn! Click Here

The memoir here is told mostly in flashback from the perspective of 1899 when Saito, now an veteran man, brings his ailing grandson to gaze a doctor. In the home of the doctor there is an feeble photograph of a samurai that Saito recognizes, and the memories reach flooding help to both the frail man in the doctor (only the viewer is privy to both) . The two samurai first met during the last days of the Tokugawa Shogunate, as clans were forced to settle between obedience to the Shogun, who wanted to bear the outmoded ways, and the Emperor, who favored opening Japan to the rest of the world and modernizing the country. The group to which Saito belong remained accurate to the Shogun, which dooms them as the troops of the Emperor occupy control of the country.

The civil war is creating a time of famine and poverty in Japan, so Yoshimura has left not only his clan but also his wife and children gradual to rep work so that he can send money home to his family. Since he is a mercenary Saito and the other samurai gape Yoshimura as being dishonorable. When Yoshimura talks with adore of the land from which he came, Saito, who cannot conceive of being exact to a space rather than to a man, decides to end Yoshimura. But the “country” samurai is too worthy with a sword and believes that Saito’s attack is honest a test. However, the key incompatibility between the two is clearly established: Saito is alive because no one has killed him, while Yoshimura kills because he wants to conclude alive.

Buy,Download, Or Stream When the Last Sword Is Drawn! Click Here

It is definite that Yoshimura represents for Takita the personification code of Bushido. Time and time again my Western sensibilities intruded into this film because with his gargantuan admire for his family and the land from which he comes, I kept expecting Yoshimura to simply go home, but eventually got it through my thick skull that the point here is that he cannot go home, for several reasons. Despite the brief battle and swordplay sequences, “Mibu gishi den” is really a character search for and like Saito we approach to peer the proper value of the weird samurai from the country, especially when the doctor finishes the chronicle and provide a sense of closure for the both extinct man and the viewing audience.

In the 2004 Awards of the Japanese Academy, “Mibu gishi den” won Best Record with Nakai picking up the awards for Best Actor and Sato for Best Supporting Actor. It was nominated for eight other awards, but apparently in Japan winning the Best Narrate award does not carry over into a lot of technical categories. However, I would certainly argue that it is Nakai’s performance that elevates this film above the high levels of sentimentality that recall up almost the entire final act. Quite simply his performance was what made me round up in the final analysis on this decidedly different samurai film.

This was the closing film at the 2002 Tokyo International Film Festical. Yoshimura Kanichiro, “the wolf of Mibu”, who toils through the destroy of the Shogunate era armed only with his sense of justice.

I have owned this movie for some time now and never tire of watching it again to win out details of the chronicle I had missed before. I procure it has a rich mixture of sights and sounds that invent it a memoir worth repeating. The characters are believeable and stout of emotion. The action is well played. I’ve found it to be a keeper.

I worship this DVD! The pictures are pristine and point to both sexes, the video footage sprinkled thoughout is friendly, and the sound recordings are first rate as well. The mnemonic arrive is recent and “fixes” the sounds more easily in your memory. I acquire the female narrator’s negate very favorable and easy to understand. A treat for anyone who wants to learn impartial which bird it is whose song and calls own the air, especially in the spring. Oh, and another extraordinary plus: Gargantuan entertainment for my two lovebirds! It cracked me up when my male belted out the song of the Indigo bunting in near-perfect imitation. Please note: this DVD has but one aim: to familiarize the viewer/listener with birds and their songs and calls. If you want to learn more about these birds, I recommend Stokes’ Field Guide to Birds, simply because it packs the most information on the same page of any guide that I absorb. For identification purposes and range, Sibley’s Guide to Birds, in my understanding, is unsurpassed. And once your interest in birds leads you to ask more questions, by all means, treat yourself to Sir David Attenborough’s estimable The Life of Birds. I have both, the DVD station and the book, and I can only speed you to earn the companion book as well since it is so wonderfully written. I found that I learned even more by reading the book after I had first watched the series on PBS. Sibley’s Guide to Bird Behavior is also highly recommended.

There is a wealth of information out there on these feathered wonders, but for sheer beauty and clarity of sound, this DVD is worth every penny!

Truly, I am enjoying “Birds! Birds! Birds!” and I am purchasing a second for the friend who patiently got me into birding attend when I could unprejudiced about enlighten that a Robin is not a Cardinal. Its photography and/or videography of each Eastern bird is impressive. More than a few of the shots are artistic and not unbiased a ‘make-do’ illustration. The quality of the audio is glorious, and the examples of calls and songs seem to be quite useful. Curiously, I am recalling more of the mnemonic devices (such as “ee-oh-lay” for the Wood Thrush) because of the narrator’s notify which is female. Though not in-depth (like the birdsong collection by Peterson’s Field Guides) this is, nevertheless, as they say, a bang for the buck. (And I saved nearly $10 buying mine from one of the other new/used sellers – located in my site.) There is no accompanying booklet; and that might be a quandary for some folks. However, the DVD menu lets you go to the index. There’s also a category of “Sounds Like…” To stretch your knowledge, there are numerous quizzes. I can imagine that birders of less than expert capabilities – such as myself – might even select this along to belief and hear on a laptop or on a car DVD player to be able to check on characteristics while in the field.

In case you’re unusual to the world of “Mystery Science Theater 3000″ (MST3K for short, that what us fans – “Misties” – call it), this is the well-known TV expose where a silhouette of a man and two robots sitting in theater seats provide running commentary for some of the worst movies ever made. The ninety-minute episodes are also scattered with sketches and songs and amount to some of the smartest, most pop-culture savvy, side-splitting comedy ever made.

This is the first of the four-episode collections of “Mystery Science Theater 3000″ offered from Rhino (previously they had only offered them in single DVD editions) . It contains an entertaining mix of movies: a science-fiction scare flick, a drama about skydivers, a 60s beach comedy, and a thriller on a tropical island. Three of the episodes arrive from the splendid sixth season, when Mike Nelson was the human host and the wisecracks and comments had become razor absorbing and swiftly and enraged. One episode comes from the second season, when the prove had a more laid-back, profitable humor when Joel Hodgson was the host. Although this collection skews toward the later seasons, it is tranquil a favorable general introduction to the present for newcomers, since most of the episodes are terrific. Fans who favor Joel Hodgson’s style won’t devour this as worthy as the second and third box location, but for most fans the inclusion of “The Skydivers” and “The Creeping Horror” build it a must-own.

BLOODLUST! Episode #607. A rip-off of “The Most Uncertain Game,” only with young college kids (one of whom is Robert Reed, future Brady Bunch dad!) . The four dummies land on a jungle island to go exploring and become trapped by the rich but extremely wishy-washy maniac millionaire who owns the island. Apparently, he enjoys hunting down people to turn them into stuffed trophies. The film isn’t really terrible, impartial completely unoriginal and acted with total flatness. Robert Reed never seems more than mildly “cheesed” and “fed up” (to quote Mike and `Bots) with the life-threatening region. But it’s season six, and the show’s writers couldn’t do any despicable at this point, and the result is the usual hilarious romp.

CATALINA CAPER. Episode #204. This is the only Joel Hodgson episode in the collection, and it’s an oddball entry in MST3K history: it’s the only time the indicate took on an overt comedy. Apt, “Catalina Caper,” a teen 60s bikini beach comedy, isn’t humorous at all, but since it doesn’t rob itself seriously it becomes a tough target to obtain fun off. Joel and the `Bots have a edifying time with the lousy `prat-fall’ funny, the bad musical numbers (one featuring Petite Richard, waaaay out of his element), skinny Tommy Kirk, and the celebrated `creepy girl,’ but this is a spotty episode and the weakest in this pack. Don’t design your opinions of Joel’s episodes based on this one.

THE CREEPING Fright. Episode #606. This is a classic, and one of the worst films the MST3K team ever took on. A tremendous shag carpet (oh, excuse me, I meant `alien’) starts eating the citizens of a aloof California town; or at least it gets terminate enough to them so they can hoist themselves into its mouth. And why is the town so tranquil? Because while making the film, someone accidentally kicked the sound equipment into a lake, so the whole movie has almost NO Hiss SOUND. Yep, we instead have a narrator telling us what the characters are saying, doing, discussing, and so on. You have to spy it (or hear it) to have it! Mike and the `Bots unload on this one, and it’s a yowl. One of the funniest episodes ever.

THE SKYDIVERS. Episode #609. One of the most beloved of all MST3K episodes. Writer Paul Chaplin said of it: “I don’t want to criticize this movie. I’m too fond of the final result for our demonstrate…there’s never been a better movie for our treatment.” I’ll drink to that. This drama about the loves and losses of people working at a parachuting school is so uncommon, so bizarrely scripted, so awfully acted, filled with so many inexplicably wack-o characters, and shot with such magnificent ineptitude that it positively amazes. The riffing from the hosts is some of the best, sharpest commentary they ever did. This is the first of three movies MST3K did from director Coleman Francis (who makes Ed Wood peer like Orson Welles!) . The second one, “Red Zone Cuba” is available on its fill DVD. The third, “The Beast of Yucca Flats” isn’t out yet, and Rhino should really bag this one on a future collection.

All four films are offered in “non-MST3K” versions on the flip side of their discs, which is a nice feature if you really want to witness how remarkable the present added to these bad films. “Bloodlust” and “Catalina Caper” are all factual – although boring – on their beget, but gaze how long you can sit through the other two without Mike and Robots before you lag your eyes out!

So there you have it, three of the most phenomenally laughable episodes of MST3K, plus one of the most fresh. A spacious package for fans and newcomers alike! (Objective spy out for acid in your parachute!)

Thank you Rhino for finally getting us the box sets we’ve been clamoring for. In this box position are the episodes “Catalina Caper”, “The Creeping Horror”, “Bloodlust (with short- A Visit to Uncle Jim’s Dairy Farm) “, and “The Sky Divers (with short- Why Gawk Industrial Arts) “.

Catalina Caper: 1960’s era beach movie with a space that goes something like this: stolen scroll, lil’ Richard singing, dancing, dancing, volleyball, dancing, scuba diving, & dancing. Also appearing in this stink-burger was Lyle Waggoner, from the Carol Burnett note, as a scuba diving hood. Servo’s song to Creepy Girl is a classic.

The Creeping Terror: Wow! Can that monster scramble! Probably one of the most hilarious movie monsters ever. An passe woman with a motorized cart could easily find a plot from this creature, and yet dozens of fit young folk salvage gobbled up by this overgrown shag carpet. Apparently nobody ever figured out the notion of running away during the 50’s.

Bloodlust: Robert Reed (Mike Brady from the Brady Bunch) stars as a studly young man vacationing on a yacht with his friends. He wears a T-shirt so tight you’d vow it was painted on. The dwelling is basically a ripoff of the Most Perilous Game.

The Sky Divers: Another portion of flotsam from Coleman Francis. With acting preformances so tepid that you wonder if the actors have a pulse. Perceive for the truly bizzare dance party with a woman of Amazonian proportions. Also glance for Petey the plane.

Most politically charged films focus on corruption at the higher levels of space, but STREET FIGHT gives us a curb-side plan of something powerful smaller …and distinguished more distinguished.

The 2002 Newark, Unique Jersey Mayoral urge is something most voters in the U.S. could care less about. Why should someone in, say, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania pay attention to Newark’s voting issues? Or someone in Fort Worth, Texas? Or San Francisco, California? Realistically, none of them would. But Newark is Recent Jersey’s most populated city, and those in San Francisco and beyond might want to bewitch a peak at what’s happening to our democracy on a pseudo-microcosmic level.

The film’s valuable focus is on Cory Booker, a Newark city councilman with his examine on the mayor’s office. He’s a Stanford and Yale graduate who lives in a slum within Newark. He’s an idealist who’s grown tired of his city’s terrible schools, poorer neighborhoods, and rising jobless rate. To fetch into the mayor’s office, though, he’ll have to unseat four-time incumbent Sharpe James, a man who’s firmly entrenched within Newark’s politics.

We stare as writer/director/photographer Marshall Curry seeks to interview both sides of the run, first by checking in on Cory Booker’s campaign, then by trying (in vain) to meet up with Sharpe James and his people. But once James’ campaign personnel learn that Curry interviewed Booker already, he is immediately shunned and pushed aside (often in a very rough manner) . Curry’s camera is pushed around time and again, his microphone broken, and he’s denied access to Sharpe James entirely. Even when Curry catches up with James at a public event, he’s manhandled by Sharpe James’ `brute squad.’ Most will gather this very unsettling, as this is a publicly elected figure in a public location who is, in essence, acting like a thug.

That we never touch on the political issues surrounding the campaign is spicy and absurd. These are both determined aspects of the film. It shows us how tiny our democracy means in many instances; it isn’t the awful schools/neighborhoods/jobs that dominate voters’ discussions, but who’s “more republican” or “more sunless” (both candidates are dim) or “campaign has more money” or “has visited a strip joint”.

In the destroy, we explore Sharpe James employ every slimy tactic at his disposal in order to come by votes (including bringing in paid James’ supporters from out-of-state to assist bolster succor on election day) . Booker doesn’t rep the election, thus giving the viewer a very negative idea of Unique Jersey politics. But all is not gloom and doom.

In 2006, Cory Booker returned to the mayoral run and took Newark by storm. Sharpe James uncharacteristically dropped from the hasten for unknown reasons while a original runner took up situation against Booker, only to be squashed in the largest landslide acquire of any mayoral hasten in Unique Jersey history.

But the bitter taste of the 2002 rush mild lingers in audiences minds after watching Street Fight. It’s a tough film to survey, because we all want to have that our democracy is flawless when, in fact, it has so many problems and shady dealings as to gain one ill at the prospect.

Q: Why should anyone west of the Delaware River care about the Newark, NJ mayoral speed of 2002? A: For me, this was an edge-of-the-seat suspenser that wouldn’t let go long enough to let me choose a phone call. If you don’t know how it ends, notice it for the cliffhanging yarn it tells. For anyone else, this compact dinky documentary should be seen for its relentless journalistic energy. As American politics becomes more and more dominated by awe tactics, the corporate-owned news organizations have abdicated their duties as the Fourth Estate of our republic, leaving independents like Marshall Curry to remove up the mantle. STREET FIGHT compares favorably with the classic MEDIUM Chilly, and entertains like a latter-day version of THE CANDIDATE.

We examine Sharpe James, a six-term incumbent, try every dirty trick in the book to bear on to his office: he threatens business closures for those who build rival Cory Booker’s brand in their windows; he smears the Booker campaign with bogus sex scandals; he even uses the fact that out of the two African American candidates, Booker is less “right” for having lighter skin than his. Both sides wrangle for endorsements, meet with community groups, and slither every dollar not nailed down. The kind of wait on room manipulations feeble by James would seem highly fabulous in a fictional film. Although it may grasp residence in a different city, this documentary is the perfect companion fraction to Season Three of THE WIRE. The similarities between the two political environments is uncanny.

Booker himself, 32 years obsolete at the time of the hasten, is all forward momentum. Barak Obama is clearly not the only young politician who threatens to breathe some life into our dying democracy. On the eve of the election, a child who has fair touched Booker tells Curry, off camera, to smell her hands. “Why, does he have a smell? ” “Yes,” says the girl. “He smells like the future.”

I care for this prove! I really got a kick out of the first season and the second was even better. The wives are a scrumptious mixture of devils and angels. The second season is a bit more risque in that the sexual scenes are noteworthy more graphic. Definately not for children. As a member of the LDS Church that does not condone polygamy, I was at first eager in the explain because I wanted to peer how it portrayed the Mormon Church. But it really skirts the state although there are subtle inuendo like LDS Church icons and landmarks in scenes of the explain.

I care for the plot the wives interact with each other but most of all, care for how they gang up on Bill or turn on him to win what they want.

The twists and turns with members of the sect at the compound and the power struggle between the two “prophet” heir families is animated. Also bringing in another Polygimist sect “the Greens” was a completely unique twist which I assume we will gaze considerable more of in future episodes.

Overall it is a grand indicate and I have my DVR area to search for or narrate each episode.

Thanks

Kate

SPOILERS!! In the second season of this unusual series, things rep even more complicated and difficult for polygamist husband Bill Henrikson and his three wives, Barb, Nikki, and Margene. Their oldest son is tempted carnally and then turns to the polygamy principle for sustenance, the oldest girl goes the opposite direction, Bill considers a fourth wife, Margene wants to be a surrogate mother, Nikki’s family makes things uncertain for the Henriksons, one of Roman’s intended young brides blackmails some of the Henriksons, and Bill wants to expand his financial empire to include video game slot machines.

What’s most enthralling about this series is that the family is portrayed as struggling to live in the new suburbs, outside of the compounds that most polygamists these days might live in; and that they have tried to cover their lifestyle from many people. However, one can only conceal such a thing for so long. Imagine how it would be having four partners in a marriage, seven kids among you, and three neighboring houses to coordinate, as well as a high-profile home improvement business.

The cast is spot-on, especially the touchy and conflicted second wife, played by Chloe Sevigny; and the stalwart Harry Dean Stanton as her father, the noteworthy patriarch who believes himself to be a prophet.
