While Cecil B. DeMille’s directorial skills were sometimes too rooted in the more grandiose style of the restful era, he CERTAINLY was ALWAYS a master showman, and his 1956 remake of “The Ten Commandments” is a whale of a point to! Both pious and profane, posturing and right, it isn’t huge history, but it abounds in spectacle. While he was in abominable health during the filming (suffering a seizure that was either a stroke or tranquil heart attack, while working under the 130-degree Egyptian sun), his distinctive ’style’ was never more in evidence, with mountainous, overwrought performances, heavenly costumes and sets, monumental climaxes, and morals that are repeatedly hammered home. In ‘classic’ DeMille, there ARE no ‘grays’, everything is ‘good’ or ‘evil’, and ‘evil’ WILL be punished! Watching the film, you’ll either devour the ‘ride’, or you’ll groan, again and again. Personally, I like it, even with it’s unintentional(? ) campiness!

Among my well-liked ’so abominable it’s FUN’ moments are ‘Rameses’ Yul Brynner and ‘Nefretiri’ Anne Baxter’s frequent expend of “Moses, Moses…” whenever he predicts something dire (Brynner looks like he can barely withhold a straight face, uttering the phrase) ; ‘Sephora’ Yvonne De Carlo’s stoic, yet impassioned pitch to Moses to marry her, always looking away (‘into the future’, I presume), when comparing her assets to Nefretiri’s; ‘Dathan’ Edward G. Robinson’s entire performance (nearly yarn hamminess from one of America’s finest film actors) ; Woody Strode’s Ethiopian ‘Princess’ companion, who praises Moses’ kindness with so considerable heat and honey that Nefretiri suspects he was fooling around, down south; and Sir Cedric Hardwicke’s ‘Sethi’, turning an Egyptian Pharoah into a world-weary lovable executive-type (one can’t aid but wonder how Rameses could be HIS son!)
Compared to Baxter’s scenery-chewing, and Brynner’s posturing, Charlton Heston’s portrayal of Moses is so understated that he’s often been criticized as ‘wooden’ in the role, which is unfair; while DeMille frequently posed him to match classic statues and paintings, his complete earnestness in the role, combined with his sheer physical presence, keeps him from receding into the backround of the spectacle that surrounds him. Despite thousands of Egyptian extras portraying Hebrews during the amazing ‘Exodus’ sequence, filling the shroud, Heston always grabs and holds your attention; certainly no actor has ever been a more memorable Moses!

The film has some very sure merits; many of the special effects (particularly the ‘Angel of Death’ vapor, and the massive parting of the Red Sea) are smooth fantastic, today; Elmer Bernstein’s procure is an often ‘over-the-top’ joy to listen to; and the cast includes some very enchanting supporting players, including Nina Foch, Vincent Brand, and DeMille’s longtime associate, Henry Wilcoxon.
Taken as spectacle, as a gigantic entertainment for the senses, “The Ten Commandments” is quite a point to, and it’s continued popularity over the past half-century is proof that many are collected captivated by it.
Cecil B. DeMille, master showman, knew his audience!
Okay. I admit it. Watching this Biblical record, when it was a mainstay on ABC each Easter evening for some 30 years, I practically had the whole script memorized. . .even knew when Anne Baxter, as over-eager Nefretiri, would promenade into a wickedly astounding pattern of over-acting. (“Moses. . .” she would coo, “remove me in your arms. . .”) I must have seen THE TEN COMMANDMENTS dozens of times, and yet, each year, I plopped my carcass on the couch on Easter evening, popcorn and suds in tow, and watched Cecil B. DeMille’s 4-plus hour anecdote, completely mesmerized and entertained.
All of us know the story: a once-great Egyptian prince leads his factual people, the Hebrews, into freedom from four centuries of slavery and bondage. It is a large memoir, as four books of the Ragged Testament aptly, well, attest. Yet what makes this flick truly astounding, impressive, and fun to eye, is the scope and great scale of DeMille’s 1956 epic–from the awesome vistas of Egypt, portrayed on a blue mask in some Hollywood studio, to the blatantly corny, often amusing, dialogue and actions of its characters (a distant reflection of the quiet film icon who dominates this represent) . Accordingly, THE TEN COMMANDMENTS, in particular, this DVD Special Collector’s Edition, is an absolute blast for film buffs thirsty for more trivia and knowledge regarding one of Hollywood’s alltime classics.
Here, in the astounding commentaries that accompany the film, “The Ten Commandments” student and author Katherine Orrison furnishes an astonishing, attractive, and overwhelming avalanche of information. For instance: Did you know that DeMille’s first choice for Queen Nefretiri was not Anne Baxter, but Audrey Hepburn? Yet, unfortunately, Hepburn lacked the figure to bear out the silk gowns so prevalent for her character, so Baxter got the nod. And. . .William Holden, not Yul Brynner, was pegged to play Rameses. . .yet Bill didn’t want to have his head shaved, while Brynner was an international star following his clean-shaven skullcap in the “King And I.” Brynner looked “Egyptian”; he got the piece, Holden was dispatched.
And I loved the “diaper pen” disclosure of infant Fraser Heston, who, of course, is Charlton Heston’s son, and who played the baby Moses. I’ve watched this movie, again, dozens of times, but I never noticed the glistening diaper pen on sturdy Fraser’s diaper, as the baby laid in his willowy basket, until a giggling Orrison brought it to my attention. Yep, there it is; yet DeMille was on a tight schedule. No time to go aid and factual.
In fact, I did not realize that DeMille, 75 when this film was made, suffered a devastating heart attack during production–a setback that threatened to bring the entire project to its knees, before his ambitious daughter filled in for her father, for three short days, before DeMille returned to navigate THE TEN COMMANDMENTS to its historical conclusion. This is suited stuff, and Orrison furnishes slight details of objective about everything in provocative fashion.
So, although Chuck and the gang no longer dominate ABC entertainment on Easter evenings, THE TEN COMMANDMENTS detached dominates the hallowed tier of myth lexicons. This movie, after some 50 years, continues to uplift and entertain; and this collector’s edition, with its just recall of the facts, merely enhances the viewing experience.

Just about everything is ample about this point to, including the allege acting in both lanuges, but there’s one serious quandary in the continueity that might have some people confused. Episode 1 actually takes site AFTER episodes 2-5. Why they did this, I have no thought. Anyway, if you want the discover the episodes in their top-notch order, peer them like this:

Alrighty, what can I say that hasn’t really been said? I disagree with some of the reviews. I’ve seen both sets, and this one by far is better. I don’t understand where one reviewer got the “Grainy” viewing on DVD, mine doesn’t have that. Yes, the English dubs aren’t as pleasurable as the origional voices, but that’s a given in almost any anime.

The first episode is a catcher episode, but takes residence later in the space. Aside from that, I found nothing confusing about it, even when the people split up and it skipped abet and forth. The only annoying thing about it is the cramped commercial fracture thingy in the middle of the episode. If you sit down and gawk all 13 in a row, you’ll know what I mean.
I enjoyed this anime more than the others of it’s type because it has character. You survey progress with each character, as they become more proficient in their abilities. Another plus is that even though Proper triumphs over cross, salubrious isn’t the unstoppable force that only takes a few scratches. Some major setbacks occur, and I almost had to witness a couple scenes twice to do obvious that really happened, my mind woulnd’t beget it. The storyline also includes several place twists, that will fabricate you actually reconsider who is worthy and who is abominable.
The chunky VHS cost me almost twice the DVD cost. When I saw it for DVD for only 50 bucks, I ran out and bought it. This is most definately worth every penny I’ve spent, and I’ve seen the entire series 3 times and am collected not tired of it. I highly recommend this not honest for any anime fan, but for any fantasy fan as well.

I grew up and now proudly fill Transformers Gen 1 collection. With Armada it introduces the “minicons” very distinguished tiny robots that add power to the already distinguished Autobots and Decepticons. I did not accomplish watching this series, but am looking foward for season 1 share 2 box situation. Higlights from this series, well I assume the showing of ancient school transformers in a cameo draw for example like Hound, Ramjet(I own it was him) and numerous that I could not acquire out was splendid. also the introduction of Scavenger, Thrust, Star Saber, Sky Order Shield, the powerlinx technique and many more fun things. It is trustworthy for your kids and for those guys my age that are whinning and complaining about it…gain over it let your kids like something fresh and halt trying to compare Generation 1 with all the other Transformers that arrive out. Profitable job to Rhino and terminate taking too long and maintain bringing more Transformers, perharps headmasters? beast wars neo?
Transformers: Armada introduced a daring current direction in the Transformers legacy.

While Robots in Disguise offered fans a complete reboot of the Transformers Universe, Armada offered some continuity and throwbacks to previous generations. It was because of this direction that I was drawn support to Transformers and its mythology.
This is the first cartoon series since G1 that Optimus Prime has been featured as a tractor trailer truck. Other G1 characters have received updates, like Jetfire, featured as a site shuttle, Red Alert, featured as the Autobot Medic/Security Officer who transforms into an emergency SUV, and even Starscream is featured as the second-in-command of the Decepticons, transforming into a jet with two broad cannons.

The G1 throwback I found to be the most interesting about this series was that even the Distinguished Unicron was resurrected for this series.
Set sometime in the future, the Transformers watch the power of the Mini-Cons, and dwelling out to net the exiguous robots that can increase their power. Whichever side becomes more great via the Mini-Cons has the power to rep the war between the Autobots and Decepticons. The twist is, that the only earthlings who know that the Transformers are on Earth are Rad, Carlos, and Alexis, three kids who salvage the first hibernating Mini-Con and peep a battle between Optimus Prime and Megatron.
Although this series can be a limited campy at times, it is a immense addition to the Transformers storyline, featuring a lot of spacious throwbacks and references to previous generations. As the series goes on, it gets better and better, with the storylines becoming deeper and more eager.
I’m looking forward to fragment 2!!!

If nothing else one has to give credit to the WWE for attempting to spread out further than the squared circle. While their attempt at a current football franchise failed, their diving into the world of film has done well for them. Some movies hit highs and some fall to lows but they’re almost always piquant. They also provide a jumping board for the careers of their wrestlers. Such is the case with John Cena.

Cena has starred in one film already, the well received THE MARINE. An action film seemed a natural leap for him and he did a radiant job handling acting and action chores both with ease. The next step was finding a follow up vehicle and that came about with the original release 12 ROUNDS.
Cena stars as Original Orleans policeman Danny Fisher who winds up by circumstance in the middle of an FBI hunt to track down a terrorist named Miles Jackson (Aidan Gillen) . A high-tail follows and after he stops the terrorist, Jackson tells his girlfriend to rush before he takes the time to sight an oncoming truck in her path. Blaming Fisher for her death, he swears they’ll meet again.

Fast forward one year later and Danny is now a detective. He heads to work only to gather a phone call. It’s Jackson and he informs Danny that he’s taken Danny’s girlfriend Molly (Ashley Scott) hostage. Honest to let him know he’s serious, Jackson blows up Danny and Molly’s house while Danny watches. He then tells him they’re going to play a game with the life of Molly hanging in the balance. All Danny has to do is glean the majority of the 12 rounds Jackson has planned for him.
Danny contacts his partner on the force for assistance and then heads out to hold on the first round. Each one sets him up for a life or death set for either himself or some innocent person who finds themselves enthusiastic in helping him. While he rejoices at the wins, he begins to feel guilty over the losses as they involve the death or injury of someone else.
Along the method the FBI become interested since they’ve been watching all along. Of course Danny’s not to enthusiastic to work with them since they failed to voice him earlier of the prison fracture inspiring Jackson. Unlikely allies open to work together to try and engage down this excited man while saving Molly at the same time.
Steve Harris stars as Special Agent George Aiken, the main agent in charge of catching Jackson from the initiate. His concerns focus more on the recapture than on saving Molly. Of course this results in head to head conflict with Danny and his goal of saving the woman he loves. Agent Aiken has a personal reason for wanting Jackson caught as well but eventually realizes he may have achieve his personal interests above the life of this woman.
The clock is ticking and with only so many hours allotted for Danny to complete all of his tasks, he struggles to rep a arrangement to beat Jackson at his believe game. Beaten down, battered along the contrivance, the final showdown approaches. Only then will we leer who wins and who loses the game of 12 rounds.
Cena does a handsome job here with only one jam. He’s never given great chance to act. Perhaps that’s the map, giving him objective enough moments to convince people of his sincerity but for the most fragment impartial jumping, running and fighting to come the films conclusion. Cena can do a decent job of acting but unless he’s given the opportunity, his chances of a long term career in film dwindles.
While the film does offer the requisite amount of action with minimal amount of station, the twists and turns Jackson puts Danny through are unique for the most portion. But as I was watching this film I kept thinking I’d seen it before. It was only after I was reminded by a friend that I place it all together and realized that Bruce Willis was delicate worthy save through the paces of games that kept him running in DIE HARD 3. While this film is not an precise copy, the overall feeling creeps in at times.
That being said, it remains a sparkling section of entertainment. The production values are well done and all the money spent to acquire the record shows on the shroud. Rarely has Fresh Orleans looked this excellent and with the unpleasant press of Katrina, it’s nice to witness the locale aged once again.
All in all you won’t do unpleasant by renting this film to glimpse. And for Cena fans, you’ll want to add it to your collection. But let’s hope that he gets the chance to stretch himself a slight further in his next film. Only then can he hope to finish greater stardom rather than derive himself in the straight to DVD category.
In his earlier movie, John Cena was The Marine, which was not very well received. In 12 Rounds, he stars as Detective Danny Fischer of Current Orleans Police Department. This movie is definitely a step up from The Marine as Cena has developed his acting and action skills further. The fable is engaging and the action sequences are spectacular but one gets the feeling of having seen it all somewhere before. The bus bomb sequence is ripped from Urge – the bus number here is 5050, in Bustle it is 2525. The blowing up of Cena’s partner is another scene that takes me attend to Urge [Blu-ray]. The streetcar sequence is somewhat similar to the reveal sequence in Spider-Man 2, but the action is more `human’ than superhuman, so to impart. Others remind me of the various Die Hard movies.
Nevertheless, the director and the writers deserve credit for integrating all these sequences into a seamless whole so that it does not feel contrived or even impossible (we know it is) . Aiden Gillen is salubrious as the villain of the allotment, terrorist Miles Jackson. For once, the hero in this movie does not try to do everything on his enjoy – he reluctantly agrees to FBI cooperation.
It is also mammoth to gape Unusual Orleans being mature as a locale for an action film. We are quite weak to seeing L.A., Unique York and Chicago as a backdrop for action movies, but this was a revelation. The city looks shapely on blu-ray and even the many night scenes are well done. The film makers have gone to huge lengths to expend authentic settings, though I do not know the extent to which they ancient FX and CGI. The ending of the film was never in doubt, but it was a fitting finale. I have not yet seen the alternative endings, though. One word about the Digital Copy – it suffers from too many artifacts in some speedy enthralling scenes, but the overall presentation is wonderful.
Cena’s acting career is unprejudiced starting to purchase off and this is a noteworthy better outing than The Marine. The future can only be brighter. This film can heartily be recommended for all action lovers.

I am a titanic Lucy fan and impartial esteem her shows. With the heed of the other version of this station, along with all the spot it took up I avoided buying it. I agree with many of the reviewers about the GREED leisurely the first version of the I appreciate Lucy complete first season DVD situation. It takes up so powerful site (9 DVD Boxes) and it is expensive. Well I guess the powers that be at CBS finally listened to the dissapointed fans. They are now releasing this Reissue of I Worship Lucy – The Complete First Season in what they call a unusual slim pack and the best thing is that it will be under $50.00 which is almost half the mark of that other version. The DVDs will also be lop down to 7 instead of 9 which gives you more episodes per DVD. The will be one box residence rather than 9 individual boxes. I attend anyone who is in the process of buying that other more expensive version to wait because on May 3, 2005 this Original slim pack and more affordable version will be released and the package looks a lot more like a DVD package should search for, and less like a box that holds 9 DVDs. It has all the things the other version has but it is in a set saving package and is more affordable. The pilot and all 35 season 1 episodes are included on this classic sitcom! Approx. 907 minutes of total fun on a slim 7 DVD BOX Station under 50 bucks. I hope this helps some of you. I adore “I Admire Lucy.” Whenever I gather it on TV, I recognize and score myself laughing no matter how many times I’ve seen the episode. Naturally, it was one of the first shows I knew I wanted on DVD. I wished I’d waited for this station, however.
When season one was first released, it was tremendous and expensive. Quick-witted how powerful I wanted the exhibit, I ignored the brand and bought it. Now, over a year later, we fetch a spot more in line with the other three released to date. Now there are only seven discs, and it’s mighty thinner. This takes up a section of what the unusual did on my shelf. Yet all the extras and quality are composed there. Hold me, I checked.
So what do you secure? You procure the 35 official season 1 episodes plus the “lost pilot” that was found and released several years ago. The episodes have been restored and they haven’t looked this suitable in years. Characterize is unusual fat frame dim and white and sound is new mono. While there is occasional dust and such in the represent, for something 50 years former, this is elegant fantastic. Bonus features include tedious the scenes trivia and photos, guest cast information, restored footage (some of which is a hoot), the novel fascinating opening, and a total of thirteen episodes of Lucy’s radio indicate “My Popular Husband” that inspired sure episodes.
For me, I glean some of the episodes come the open of season 1 to be rather insensible and not as comical. This is a celebrated complaint of mine with most TV shows. The writers and actors need time to win the characters before things really assume off. Collected, there are some early gems like “The Diet” and “The Fur Coat.” The second half more then makes up for the first with many classic moments and hilarious episodes like “The Ballet,” “Breaking the Lease,” “The Gossip,” “Pioneer Women,” “The Freezer,” and “Lucy’s Schedule.” I can discover these episodes over and over again and laugh myself droll every time.
Of course, this doesn’t mention the single most famed episode of season 1 – “Lucy Does a TV Commercial.” If this title doesn’t ring a bell, I have unbiased one word for you. Vitameatavegamin.
This is the dwelling that should have been released originally. If you waited, hoping that Paramount would leer the light, your patience has been rewarded large time.

I’ve avoided this movie for the longest time because Demi Moore was in it. Isn’t that funny? Even though I’ve enjoyed many of her movies, I honest couldn’t bear that a movie this primary with her in it would receive the historic treatment it deserved. I could not have been more outrageous. I was deeply engrossed from the first scene, and could not wander myself away. Demi herself is wonderful, but the screenplay and the scenery, the production and the details pulled me suitable into the chronicle and would not let me go until the very last scene — and I absolutely loved the ending! This is an fantastic work of art — and I’m satisfied I finally had a chance to look it. Once I had, I knew I had to add it to my library — a collection of what I assume to be only the best representations of our culture and our history.
There’s a disclaimer which flashes on the cover at the beginning of this 1995 film. It says it is “freely adapted from the unique” by Nathaniel Hawthorne. Then it goes on to state the noted memoir through the eyes of twentieth century feminism, sexual freedom and politically accurate joyful endings. I must admit I never did read the book, but I’ve long been aware of the general state, dwelling in 1666, of an adulteress forced to wear the scarlet letter “A”.
Demi Moore is cast as Hester Pryne, the adulteress, and we all know what’s going to happen to her. She’s been sent to America to save a home; her husband is supposed to be following soon. She shocks the helpful people of the Massachusetts Bay Colony when she insists on living alone, with the relieve of a couple of bondsmen and a female sad slave. I doubt if Hawthorne’s book then had the local minister, played by Gary Oldman, do a small nude swimming on Hester’s property. I also doubt that Hawthorne had her peeking, getting mad and sensuously soaking in a bathtub, displaying her beget nude body and thinking about the pastor. The couple order their worship for each other but it is only after they assume her husband lifeless that they consummate their relationship. Her pregnancy is a crime and she spends the last six months of her confinement in a defective prison. Then she is forced to wear the scarlet letter and is shunned by all. She refuses to name her lover, and so Oldman sulks around town, looking guilty but keeping his mouth shut. This is a huge role for any actress, but Demi Moore unprejudiced can’t handle it. She might have a nice body but the expression on her face seems to be frozen, incapable of the subtleties, passion and despair that the role calls for. Gary Oldman is slightly better, but his portrayal of the weakling pastor is also one-dimensional.
The film is saved, however, by the role of Robert Duvall, who appears tedious, but yet steals the note with his impassioned portrayal of the wronged husband curved on revenge. He dominates every scene he’s in and a single expression on his face tells more about his character than the combined performances of the rest of the entire cast. The tale is a suitable one, and it moved rapidly enough to beget my interest, especially since there were some action scenes added that Hawthorne had probably never intended. That’s why I can’t recommend it unless you’re willing to objective relax and explore a well-plotted historical romance with mediocre acting.

With a hard-edged belief of the world as: “There’s no such thing as adventure. There’s no such thing as romance. There’s only pain and desire” (actually from a Fritz Lang movie of the 1920’s) there’s plenty going on to both exhibit and disprove Hartley’s ambivalent theories.
Simple Men also formally introduces us to the absolutely luscious Elena Löwensohn. In one of the coolest and hottest scenes in all of cinema we derive to peep her bizarre 50’s beatnik-style dance to Sonic Youth’s “Kool thing.” Then joined by the two lost soul brothers it turns into an unlikely production number.

Many dismiss this film, and Hartley as unwatchable or trivial and miss the point. What is astonishing about Hartley is that he takes the seemingly trivial and elevates it to a level of art that, once seen, reflects our lives on every level from brilliance to the inane.
Simple Men is pure cinematic delight.
Hooray for Hartley!
A few years ago I was looking for some movie in TV when in nefarious fade I effect one of this channels you never gape cos the quality of the image is terrible and the movies are in my spoken languaje (spanish, I engage with subtitles) . I don’t remember what scene but I remember the face of Robert John Burke from Robocop III, talking some very clever dialogues. After fair a few minutes I couldn’t change the channel till the movie ends leaving me absolutely designate.
Honest a few weeks later by the same reason I regain “Trust” and from this same moment I became fan of Hal Hartley.
Why?
Because after years watching more than one hundred different movies of any style and director, Simple men and the rest of the Hartley’s work present me another vision of life and another plot to construct movies, thinking more in a marvelous and very deep script with a few marvelous actors than a helpful budget with vast special effects.
It reminds me the movies of Terrence Malick, because in the chaos of the existence both directors demonstrate the path of the trusty survivors, not those guys who are born to be heroes, fair those one only wanna some moment of peace and legal admire, that’s it’s more than all the glory of the universe.
