It’s oh so very hard to seize a “Best” among these satisfactory “Best Of” volumes that Image Entertainment has released for fans of the indicate who want to find objective *some* of the immense shows from Dick Van Dyke’s series. “The Best of ‘The Dick Van Dyke Point To,’ Volume 2″ has the distinction of having three of the Dick Van Dyke’s five celebrated episodes (he lists the first three below plus #93 “I’d Rather Be Bald Than Have No Head at All” and #121 “Never Bathe on Saturday”) . That alone is going to elaborate a five star rating for this DVD, but let us assume the episodes unprejudiced to note the point for the record:
Episode 19, “Where Did I Near From? ” (Written by Carl Reiner, First aired January 3, 1962), has Choose explaining to young Ritchie the epic of his birth in response to the demand that serves as the title for the episode. This is a spectacular movie with sweeping sword actions and it is based on the accurate history events in japan, I’ve seen a lot of samurai movies(made in japan for japanese) but i can say this one is Spacious as the other movies, plus this is not usual hollywood movies that awfully depicts samurais and even Yakuzas and brush off the truth.
I can say, however, without Tom Soar, this movie could have also been spacious as well. But i would guess that it is because of him, this movie gained more attention among people and so typical americans can obtain the thought of what samurai really is and what they really believe.

During that battle, Algren fights bravely and kills one of the highest ranking warriors, getting the interest of the renowned Katsumoto, the last grand Samurai leader, who orders him captured and brought to his son’s village as a prisoner.

Once there, Algren’s life is changed forever as he gets to know the exact lifestyle of the Samurai and their people. They turn out not to be the savages that the Japanese government makes them out to be. After spending winter with them, Algren “changes sides” and joins the Samurai in fighting the Emperor’s army.
The title of the movie tells the final outcome. The Samurai lose the battle. Progress triumphs over tradition. Original over musty. But Algren’s past demons are redeemed by his heroic actions helping the Samurai.
The lawful worth of this movie is its view. You can definetely spy where the budget went (other than Cruise’s salary) . A whole village was built and the attention to detail is amazing. The costumes are simply incredible, especially the battle armors. The costume designer is Ngila Dickson, who also worked in Peter Jackson’s The Lord of the Rings trilogy.

As for the acting, Glide does a delicate job, and is slowly but consistently becoming a better actor (even if this particular performance was not nominated for an Academy Award), but the movie belongs to Ken Watanabe (who was indeed nominated) as Katsumoto. His presence demands attention. He is the center of every scene he’s in. Koyuki’s performance as Taka, Katsumoto’s sister and Algren’s cherish interest, should also be noticed.

Robert Siodmak’s “The Spiral Staircase” is one of my all-time well-liked thrillers. All of the classic elements are here: Passe dusky house, thunderstorm, chiaroscuro lighting, eerie musical acquire, bright performances. In retrospect, this shrimp 1937 flick holds up as one of the funniest screwball comedies of the thirties. Loud millionaire J.B. Ball tells his extravagantly aggressive wife (Mary Nash) that she cannot maintain her $58,000 Sable coat. Ball throws it out of the upper window of their mansion where it happens to topple upright on top of bewildered Mary Smith (Arthur), who’s travelling on an open-air bus. Ahhh, the classic post-apocolyptic thriller that sets the standard for post-apocolyptic thrillers. One tagline reads ‘In the future, cities will become deserts, roads will become battlefields and the hope of mankind will appear as a stranger’. I remember skipping school in the early 80’s to finish home and recognize this one on cable, Such a astronomical movie that has lost none of it’s appeal even after 20 plus years. This is the anecdote of a man, once an officer of the law, who now roams the highways of post-apocolyptic Australia searching for gasoline and maybe a reason to exist. In this time, gasoline is the most essential commodity, so mighty so men end for it. Mel Gibson plays Max, in the role that made him known worldwide. During his travels, he comes across a cramped settlement that is actually producing petroleum. This settlement is besieged by a group of motorized, murdering, mauraders who want all the fuel. Intelligent that the fuel is life, the people in the settlement defend the fuel, but their strength and ability to bear out against this distinguished force is becoming less and less each day. Max strikes a deal with them for all the fuel he can carry provided he can accept a truck for them so they can haul their tanker of gas out of the wasteland and derive a better life in a fabled coastal land. Max fufills his demolish of the bargin, and leaves the settlement with his fuel, but is attacked and left for dumb. Having lost his car, he decides to drive the tanker. This sets up one of the most astounding highway battles ever filmed, as the settlers have turned the tanker into a absorbing fortess, and the marauders will end at nothing to finish the tanker and find the gas. This movie is what I would call a nearly pefect example of proper casting, memoir, dialogue, site, script, wardrobe, etc. to invent up a come perfect movie. Everything in the movie works so well that your entire attention is focused on the shroud, even after multiple viewings. This is actually the second in a trilogy, Enraged Max being the first and Wrathful Max Beyond Thunderdome being the third, but, in my plan, this one is the best. It’s raw, gritty, sometimes humourous and competely tantalizing. On a side heed, what’s up with Warner Brothers and their crummy cardboard packaging? It objective seems so flimsy and cheap. And don’t witness for a lot of extras with this release, objective the tubby and widescreen versions and some production notes.

This movie, the second in the Wrathful Max trilogy, is easily the best of the three. Visually, it’s very distinctive. The first movie showed a society breaking down in the post apocalyptic world. By this movie, it’s broken down. The first movie showed the immediate aftermath. There were unruffled working phones, power lines, people trying to go on with their normal lives, etc. There was even a police force, of which Max was a member, trying to acquire order. Now, society has descended into complete anarchy. Civilization’s infrastructure has broken down completely. In the first movie you saw shops, service stations, hospitals. Now you recognize people scavenging in a wrecked world. Max’s car is no longer a intellectual dusky vehicle, but a delapidated, dirty extinct beater, its engine smooth in top shape, but its interior stripped, and its body covered in dust, battered and conventional. Max’s leather police uniform is no longer immaculate, but torn and patched. Visually, this movie position a original standard, and like “Star Wars” and “Blade Runner”, changed the contrivance movies in its genre were made. Even the setting works in telling the sage. Where the first film featured country with trees and green grass, this movie is residence in a blasted desert, further accentuating the sense of collapse.

The other characters in this movie are also recent and memorable. Bruce Spence’s gyro captain is a likeable opportunist. Mike Preston’s Papagallo is the obvious, idealistic leader, in over his head, but trying his best. Vernon Wells makes a stout, flamboyant villain. And Kjell Nilsson is the Humungus, whose face we never see; leader of a vicious band of trash, whose hulking physique, and savage followers seem at odds with his instruct speech, and ostensibly conciliatory manner. The fable and characters elevate this movie over the host of uncouth budget imitators that followed. But the film is not short on action either. And George Miller was a gifted director who build to film what remain the best car meander scenes ever shot, fair down to this day. Action lovers will fetch plenty of excitement with this movie. It’s a bad shame the third film wasn’t very great, as it killed the prospects of a long running series. This is shadowy because Max, wandering lone wolf that he is, is a character who, like James Bond, Sherlock Holmes, or the Conan of the weak pulp magazines is eminently excellent to a series of adventures.

I’m happy to have some of these shows finally available in the U.S. The 1948 Reveal includes the recent Yorkshiremen sketch and Adjust Your Residence is a must if only for the Bonzo Dog Band performances (including one with Eric Indolent singing lead!) . The 1948 Exhibit is the funnier of the two shows, but at only five episodes, it’s a bit brief. There are sketches here not so very different from what Cleese and Chapman would do shortly later in Python. Every bit as worthy. Tim Brooke-Taylor’s chartered accountant’s dance is shimmering (God knows how many Python sketches that inspired) . And seeing Marty Feldman makes me ache to pick up those shows of his that played in the U.S. one summer decades ago. And of course the Yorkshiremen sketch is one of the huge comedy sketches of all time (written by Brooke-Taylor and Feldman! Pick that, tiring, parrot!) . Adjust Your Situation was designed to be a children’s indicate and the humor tends to be juvenile for the most section. But every now and then something slips in that screams Python (The shop sketch where ordering a long list of groceries gets you only a can of shoe polish. The eminent person hanging from a cliff. A couple other sketches about irritating people where you can impartial survey Eric Slothful warming up for Nudge Nudge.) My spot here is the DVD packaging. There is NOTHING in the packaging to shriek me when exactly these episodes were broadcast. The DVD packaging claims these are all recently discovered episodes. So are these the only 5 surviving episodes of The 1948 Point To? Plus fair what does recently discovered mean? The first episode of Adjust Your Station I have on tape from years ago, a copy from a copy from a copy, originally recorded off UK Gold before making its plan to the U.S. I know for a fact these aren’t all the surviving episodes of Adjust Your Station. Am I to enjoy these are all the surviving episodes from the first season? The packaging of Adjust Your Plot also lists Terry Gilliam as animator. But Gilliam’s name only appears in the credits on episode 3 and there is nothing like the cartoons for which he is eminent. There is in fact no animation at all beyond a few special effects for Captain Extraordinary. Goofy, too, is that the same Terry Jones and Tim Brooke-Taylor interviews appear on both sets. Why? So, complaints, rather than hitting on the head. Nevertheless, I’m hoping they establish out the other Adjust Your State episodes. The Do Not Adjust Your Stocking episode (or was it a special? ) is the only other one I’ve seen and it is considerable funnier than the early episodes. This compilation brings together the two feature films edited from the two Crockett series runs from the mid-1950s, the modern 3-part mini-series (“Davy Crockett, Indian Fighter”,”Davy Crockett Goes to Congress”, and “Davy Crockett At the Alamo”) and the 2-part second series (“Davy Crockett’s Keelboat Bustle” and “Davy Crockett & the River Pirates”) . It is a grand transfer of all the materials and something to kick encourage and utterly appreciate, both as nostalgia and as generous cinematic storytelling.

I missed out on the Davy Crockett craze, which means I did not have a coonskin cap and was not running around the neighborhood singing ‘The Ballad of Davy Crockett” over and over again. By the time I was watching television Fess Parker was Daniel Boone and not Davy Crockett, so it took a bit of mental rearrangement to salvage my young mind around the conception that he was both when “The Astounding World of Disney” rebroadcast the adventures of Davy Crockett. They made enough of an impression that my brother and I compelled our parents to select us the Disney picture that had audio versions of the three adventures. So it has been nigh on thirty-five years since I done seen these fresh adventure of Davy Crockett and I was a might surprised to learn they own up sparkling well.
“Davy Crockett, King of the Wild Frontier” combines “Davy Crockett, Indian Fighter,” “Davy Crockett Goes to Congress,” and “Davy Crockett at the Alamo.” Davy and his sidekick Georgie Russell (Buddy Ebsen) end a Creek uprising and convince Chief Red Stick (Pat Hogan) to return to the ways of peace despite the wait on of Captain Norton (William Bakewell) and with the tactic approval of General Andy Jackson (Basil Ruysdael), spends some time speechifying in the United States Congress, and then joins the cramped band of volunteers led by Jim Bowie (Kenneth Tobey) defending the Alamo against the Mexican army of General Santa Ana. He stops Bigfoot Mason (Mike Mazurki) from stealing the land of Charlie Two Shirts (Jeff Thompson), gives a speech in Congress defending the true of Indians to their tribal lands, and befriends the mettlesome Busted Luck (Prick Cravat) on the blueprint to the Alamo. The climatic battle has an appropriate gravity and does a tolerable job of sticking to history beyond reducing the role of Colonel Travis (Don Megowan) . When Davy sings a final song on the last night of the battle there is an unexpected poignancy, which contrasts well with the simple determination to halt there until the kill. The inspect of Davy swinging stale Betsy as a club while about to be overwhelmed by the Mexican troops is a memorable final image of our hero.
Ultimately the main strength of these stories are the performances of the two leads. Parker completely natural in the role and Ebsen shows an understated laughable touch throughout. Granted, the nostalgic aspects of “Davy Crockett, King of the Wild Frontier” is going to be a strong section of the entertainment value here, but these are very suitable yarns for the Fifties.
“Davy Crockett and the River Pirates” includes both that fifth and final adventures of Davy Crockett (Fess Parker) and his friend Georgie Russell (Buddy Ebsen), and the previous chronicle “Davy Crockett’s Keelboat Bustle.” The favorite denominator between the two is not only the Mississippi River but also the self-styled King of the River, the braggart and brawler Mike Fink (Jeff York) . Unlike the first three adventures of the legendary American serene together in the 1955 film “Davy Crockett, King of the Wild Frontier,” these 1956 tales position a greater emphasis on comedy (although Mike Fink’s character is a lot more realistic in the second adventure) .

After all, the first three were looking more at the historical Davy Crockett and this pair is more about the legendary figure. Parker does not seem as comfortable with the slapstick as he does with Davy’s more serious side. When compared to “Davy Crockett at the Alamo” it is a bit hard to beget this is the same character. To underscore the point, compare the character of Jocko that Kenneth Tobey plays in these two Mississippi adventures with his handsome performance as a realistic and fatalistic Jim Bowie at the Alamo; as well as anything those performances exhibit the disagreement between the “historical” and “legendary” adventures of Disney’s Davy Crockett.

I bought this on a whim along with other Scholastic Dvds containing classic stories I was more familiar with. I was pleasantly surprised to score 3 amazing stories of children in dfficult situations and how with determination, perseverance and self confidence they overcame. The Dot and Astonishing Grace being more realistic and Valiant Irene more fabulous, this is an imaginative and inspirational collection without becoming too sappy.
I particularly liked narration in The Dot by Thora Birch.

With almost every season of South Park you always have the peculiar one or two episodes that weren’t really that worthy. Season 1 it was Weight Salvage 4000, Season 2 it was Terrence & Phillip in not without my Anus and so on, as with all seasons although you have the dreadful episodes, you always have your personal favourites but Season 11 is in my personal thought the strongest and most modern season to date. With episodes ranging from racial controversy to a trilogy of episodes setting the boys in Imaginationland and ended up with its maintain DVD releases.

Episode 1: With Apologies To Jesse Jackson: This is a Randy Marsh episode and shows the correct no holds barred attitude that Matt Stone & Trey Parker have towards writing an episode. Randy is on an episode of Wheel of Fortune and accidentally uses the N word, which causes an uproar and singles Randy out as “That N***er Guy.” This episode is obviously a reflection on the American society in relation to the N word and satires the whole subject, extremely laughable episode with some grand one liners.
Episode 2: Cartman Sucks: Again this is another controversial episode but this one is entirely around Cartman, of a night Cartman has Butters conclude over at his house and while Butters is asleep, Cartman plays pranks on Butters then takes pictures of it. One prank backfires on Cartman which he’s stunned will execute people believe he’s gratified, he thinks Kyle has the record and is ready to demonstrate it to the class so Cartman enters on a panicky mission to try and attach his skin. Amazingly amusing as we peek Cartman demonstrate some vulnerability.

Episode 3: Lice Capades: One of the boys has head lice and Cartman leads a mission to try and collect out who it is. Cartman creates a goal for himself to jump as many homeless people as he can on his skateboard, while Kyle and the rest of the gang are on a mission to solve the Homeless jam. This is a grand parody episode of Night of the Living Stupid which gives yet another gargantuan fraction to Randy and shows how unimaginative he can be.
Episode 8: Le Petit Tourette: One day whilst in a toy store, Cartman discovers something astonishing, something that he never believed that could be possible, he discovered Tourettes Syndrome. He sees a kid swearing and getting away with it and he decides that this would be a mammoth excuse to insult those he hates to their faces and regain away with it, limited does he know however that him being Tourettes deliberately developes into something noteworthy worse which he didn’t inquire.
Episode 9: More Crap: Another gargantuan Randy Marsh episode, in which Randy endeavours on having the worlds biggest poo, He’s faced by some competition however, by the legendary number one at everything, Bono. I have to admit this is the weakest of all the episodes but it collected has its classic moments, especially when Bono is in the represent.
Episode 10,11,12: Imaginationland: One day Cartman is out to show to Kyle that Leprechauns exist, the boys made a deal that if Cartman can explain they exist then Kyle must suck his balls. Cartman does manage to prefer a Leprechaun but it was on a mission to state a warning to Imaginationland of a pending terrorist attack on our imagination. The boys are picked up by an eccentric man who takes the boys to Imaginationland which while they’re there the terrorist attack takes station. Kyle, Stan & Butters enter on a mission to succor fight the unpleasant side of our Imagination and the terrorists, whilst Cartman sets out to reveal that the Leprechaun was accurate so he can acquire Kyle to suck his Balls. An absolutely hysterical trilogy of episodes that demonstrate the marvelous imagination of the South Park creators.
Episode 13: Guitar Queer-o: Stan and Kyle are the best players on the computer game Guitar Hero and they are signed by a represent company who wants to explain their skills by then gaining 100,000 points at a present in the arcade. Kyle gets manipulated by the recount company and is convinced to net a modern and better partner, Stan takes it badly and buys a fresh game called heroin hero in which he must prance the dragon. While season closing episodes “Guitar Queer-o” and “The List” aren’t anything too special, the season as a whole is unruffled another winning and ungodly comic season of the long running present. All in all, South Park continues to raise the bar for hysterical offensiveness, and we should all definitely be gay that it does, and hasn’t become a stagnant shell of it’s feeble self like another long running prime time moving series that will remain nameless.
