The fresh Image DVD version of AND THEN THERE WERE NONE is a sizable improvement in video/audio quality over previous DVD releases by VCI in 1999 and Madacy in 2001. All three versions are currently available at Amazon, so be definite to check the technical info page for each disc to perceive which company makes it.

The video transfer on the Image DVD, said to be made from “unusual elements”, is noteworthy, remarkable sharper and more detailed than that on the VCI and Madacy versions. It also shows a limited more describe on all four sides of the cover. The characterize looks somewhat battered during the opening credits, but it looks sizable the rest of the method. There is a miniature amount of graininess and other blemishes throughout, but it is not detrimental. I’m especially impressed with the scenes that engage dwelling in the shadowy, in which some of the background details, such as engravings on the wall, the subtle lights and shadows, etc., can be seen with distinguished greater clarity. The VCI disc, conversely, looks considerable less gripping, and the Madacy disc even less so.

The monophonic audio tracks on the VCI and Madacy discs are louder but have more noise compared to that on the Image disc. The scrape of the dialogs not being synchronized properly on the VCI and Madacy discs has also been fixed on the Image disc.

The Image disc has one extra: the film’s British opening credit sequence, which uses the deplorably offensive title “Ten Microscopic N******” (which is also Agatha Christie’s current title for her whodunnit) . The sequence is preceded with an explanation of its exhaust so the viewer has the historical context in mind. The VCI disc has a biography piece on the filmmakers and the 1946 comedy short TWIN HUSBANDS, starring Leon Errol. The Madacy disc has a 9-minute newsreel footage from 1945, a 12-minute blooper footage (of OTHER films), 3 screenshots of lobby cards, and a trivia demand share. All three discs are region-free and without subtitles or closed captioning.

Agatha Christie’s 1930s current AND THEN THERE WERE NONE told the memoir of ten unrelated people who are lured under various pretexts to an island resort; once assembled, they sight they have been brought to the island by a mysterious homocidal maniac who accuses each of them of having escaped punishment for a past murder–and who then proceeds to steal them off one by one as the ever dwindling party rushes to unmask the hidden killer in their midst. Nothing like the new had been seen before, and it was a common sensation. So noteworthy so that Christie herself adapted the new to the stage. In creating the script, Christie discovered that the novel’s uncompromising tone and frightful conclusion did not translate well to the stage, and the final script was considerably lighter and had a considerably softer conclusion. When performed, the script was played as considerable for comedy as for suspense–and proved as accepted as the modern. A film version became inevitable.

Countless novels, plays, and movies have borrowed the premise Christie presents in AND THEN THERE NONE, and there have been at least four film versions (most often known as TEN Petite INDIANS) of the fresh work. All of these versions rely more upon the play script than the recent, offering a mix of comedy and suspense, and by far and away the best of them is famous French director Rene Clair’s 1940s version. Brilliantly played by an ensemble cast of eminent character actors including Judith Anderson, Barry Fitzgerald, Walter Huston, C. Aubrey Smith, and Roland Young, Clair creates a stylish, somewhat surrealistic romp that satirizes British “stiff upper lip” sensibilities with florishes of shaded comedy while quietly building a sense of increasing unease. From a unique standpoint, the Clair version seems more comical than suspensful; few will come by it in the least unnerving. This does not, however, change the fact that it is a great amount of fun to gaze. The film creates an air of musty mischief that is compulsively luscious, and even if a contemporary director decided to have another go at the material it seems unlikely that any cast to equal this could be assembled. If you’re prepared for a witty amusement, AND THEN THERE WERE NONE is recommended.

I don’t usually comment on the quality of DVDs unless there is a glaring issue–but since there are several DVD versions of this film, and some have been poorly reviewed, I will specify that I purchased the VCI edition. (The cloak of this particular edition is yellow with the faces of the characters appearing in a V-shaped “wedge.”) When the DVD began to play, the VCI logo was very distorted; when the DVD changed over to the menu, however, the recount became stable. When I ran the movie, I found the titles had a bit of a flicker, but this posthaste vanished; as for overall quality, the report and sound quality are rather dreadful as the movie begins but hasty corrects to an acceptable–although not excellent–level.

After a mission gone awry, Marine sniper Bob Lee Slither (Stamp Wahlberg) now leads a solitary existence in the mountains of Wyoming. When he is called wait on to benefit a covert military group (headed by Danny Glover) in determining how to pull off an assasination attempt, he soon discovers that he’s been region up in an clarify ruse to remove the drop. Hell hath no fury like a Marine scorned, and Dawdle becomes a PO’ed two-man army (once he hooks up with disgraced FBI agent Michael Pena), obvious to bring the true culprits to justice. Directd by Antoine Fuqua (“Training Day”), this high octane conspiracy thriller unprejudiced doesn’t let up and will withhold the viewer guessing. Though it’s gorgeous violent – it’s well worth watching!

My only drawback was having to hear Glover’s dialogue – was it me or did he have some really ill-fitting dentures that provided him with the most annoying utter. I was objective waiting for them to tumble out. Overall though, Glover has not given a more chilling performance since “Stare,” and Wahlberg who can also be pleasing menacing, proves to be a mountainous action hero.

The DVD extras include a colossal late the scenes segment featuring the technical advisor, himself a passe military sniper, who provides insight into that occupation as well as the weapons extinct in the movie.

I was all space to relish a satisfactory action film with a attractive cast, and positive enough the film began that procedure. But very rapid after the main pivot point in the region, the film spirals off into leftist paranoia and clumsy editorializing. A old-fashioned attempt at relevance has the reverse finish of turning the film trite and cliched. The villains that might have been engrossing, had they been presented with any depth, became cartoonish stereotypes, and the position became increasingly ludicrous and muddled with the result that any admiration for the craft fervent was completely subsumed by this simplistic and trivial sermonizing.

Too awful, because I like Label Wahlburg and Fuqua has shown he has reliable chops in the action genre and can reveal complex characters ala Training Day. But if I needed another pretentious misrepresentation of facts, I need only access any number of mainstream media. No doubt there is a expansive audience that will either ignore the op-ed message in the film or will eat-it-up. Sorry, I’m not alive to in lame caricatures and simplistic venerable wisdom. Maybe 1/2 more star solely for the quality of the film-making despite the state. It’s not a injurious film, having some trustworthy moments before it descends into yell silliness. No, sadly, it’s a dull film, that could have been great better, considering the talent interested.

The only movie that is worth the impress that is being asked is The Muppets Capture Manhattan because it is the only one of the three movies that has Jim Henson’s personal tag on it. In that particular movie the muppets are a group of college kids who choose that they want to be on broadway and not only that they want to be well-known as stage actors (a slight on the hilarious side because Henson always wanted to be in film and he wanted to be distinguished in film.) They go to Manhattan which is the epicenter of stage acting in the United States. But they come by that their path is a dinky harder then expected and waste up with no money in a city where everything costs five times what they need. At some point during the adventure Kermit loses his memory and ends up with a bunch of dreary high class frogs. Filled with the trade-marks of the muppets this film is amusing and pudgy of the jokes and fabulous story-telling that made Sesame Street a household display.

Muppets From Dwelling is humorous but it is not an recent Henson project. In it Gonzo is lonely and wishes that he knew more about what he is. He keeps having dreams about what he is and causes a media circus around the other muppets. The performer who originated the Gonzo character is serene taking on this role and that is what makes this movie worth having, but it does not have the same charm as the unique muppet ventures and the buyer would be better served waiting on this product and seeing if they can secure it for less in a separate sale.

Kermit’s Swamp Years isn’t very captivating, I can’t even remember what the fable is about and there is less time between when I watched that movie and wrote this review then the others. It focuses on Kermit which was the first mistake and tries to retell his origin narrative (which was done in the Muppet Movie which was written and produced before Henson died of a staff infection.) Don’t assume this particular movie unless you acquire it really cheap or perceive it first (you can probably score it at the local library.)

My copy of Muppets Purchase Manhattan came from Wal-Mart for five dollars. Muppets From Place has gone on sell occasionally and if you want to utilize a lot of money on a boxed space you would better be served by buying something that is distinguished harder to secure, like the Storyteller series which is absolutely incandescent and even the most stubborn children will gather this film charming. Effect your money for something you actually want and seek if buying these things individually is not a more cost effective acknowledge to your desires.

Excellent, my kids loved the movies and the note was enormous. DVD extras were also large to have.

This was, IMO, LRB’s best line-up of musicians with bassist / vocalist Wayne Nelson in the mix with the modern members. (Interestingly, Nelson would secure the rights to expend the LRB band name in modern years, playing without any of the current band members!) The concert music and songs presented are favorable and the video demonstrates the broad talent this band had. With that said, I would not rate this a 5-star video as the production quality of the concert’s taping and its transfer to DVD are not the best and resulted in a grainy video. Also, I distress have preferred to gaze the concert footage separated from the side material (interviews, rehearsals, road move), but instead the latter is presented during the concert songs. In spite of these drawbacks, I do recommend this DVD to LRB fans.

A nice upgrade from the 4-disc Billy Jack Collection. The major improvement here is that all 4 films have been digitally remastered in their modern widescreen aspect ratio from the unique film negatives. The color and the clarity watch estimable with very miniature artifacts. Though I fair got this region and haven’t watched each film in their entirety, I did sample the beginning of each disc and was amazed at how breathtaking and definite the opening scenes were for both “Billy Jack” and “Trial.” The transfers for “Born Losers” and “Washington” gape fair as astounding. These really effect the transfers on the last dwelling gaze immoral, especially since I played them encourage to succor and did a comparison.

The sound has also been digitally remastered in Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround. and each film includes both a newly recorded 2005 commentary track from the Laughlin family as well as the fresh 2000 filmmaker commetary from the last region. The discs reach in a slipcase with digipak and each disc has it’s beget tray with the recent poster art for each film beneath the tray and printed on the exact disc. The running times for each are “Born Losers” (113 minutes) ; “Billy Jack” (118 minutes) ; “Trial…” (171 minutes) ; “Washington” (114 minutes) .

The station also includes a 5th disc of bonus features. Unfortunately it’s not as pleasurable as I would’ve hoped, but I’m not complaining since I’m so impressed with the transfers of the valid films themselves. The bonus features included a very short documentary about the making of the films; Trivia Quiz; several new TV ad for ‘Billy Jack” only; Billy Jack Book Excerpt; Cut-Your-Own Fight contest info; Website info; and a photo gallery. Nothing too impressive.

Overall the transfers themselves are widescreens and watch and sound fantastic, enough for me to say that alone is worth the upgrade.

I have always been puzzled by the hostile reaction of critics to Billy Jack. The puzzling aspect is not the negativity itself, but rather the almost blanket misrepresentation or – to be charitable – misunderstanding, of what the movie is about. Thus potential buyers are disserviced by the prevailing ragged wisdom i.e. “Billy Jack preaches peace while practising violence”; “Billy Jack wants to have its cake and eat it with regard to pacifism”; “the film is hypocritical” etc. In reality, the character of Billy Jack NEVER preaches peace. The only hint of this being honest comes when he REJECTS Delores Taylor’s idea that violence in the face of violent bigotry won’t solve anything. Given his instincts as a Shoshone warrior and a Green Beret trained (ironically by the US government) for war – against the extent of brutality of the bigots he faces, there is clearly no room for touchy-feely encounter sessions. These morons are not merely exercising speech, opinion or association, but systematic physical violence on the defenceless. So Billy Jack’s struggle to reconcile his violent rage with the principles of the Freedom School is a lost cause from the outset(which Billy himself admits when – referring to his efforts to embrace the pacifist influence of the Freedom School – he says to a racist bully, “I try, I really try … but when I inspect this girl of such a sparkling spirit suffer this indignity … I objective go BERSERK! “) To critics safely weaned on the serene, unthreatening dignity of Sidney Poitier, the Billy Jack character threatened equivalent response to oppression that cared neither for the approval, feelings or physical well-being of bright oppressors. Revolutionary indeed! And while Virgil Tibbs would soak it up, confident his beget quick-witted superiority will bring justice in the slay, Billy Jack will not give an run of ground to people who had already stolen enough. Result: the bigots NEVER mess with HIM in the first instance – always someone weaker. Yet, it is precisely here that the movie parts company with the character in terms of point-of-view. For while Billy is distinct in cause and action, the movie is purposefully less so. In the destroy, Billy’s actions result in his arrest. Whether the true benefits of his actions (guarantee of the Freedom School’s existence; annual gubernatorial progress review of Indian affairs etc.) have been worth the cost or have, in reality, made any true disagreement to the overall mileu of oppression is left debatable. NOT because the movie “has its cake and eats it”, but because there are no glib, easy answers by which to provide spruce resolutions. Should Billy be praised, condemned or something in-between? The movie honestly doesn’t know and sensibly leaves this to the viewer to settle. Coming from a society where the assert of defensive violence in the face of apartheid brutality was always an ongoing terror, the movie’s delineation of contradictory but related progressive tendencies did not ring deceptive at all. In fact, its pioneering depiction (try and disclose that!) of hasten conflict from the point of thought of the oppressed was deemed so incendiary by the apartheid government that it was banned (along with Soldier Blue and Jesus Christ Superstar) . Yet, even here South of the equator, Billy Jack was a movie phenomenon in the 1970s, as we attended secret underground viewings with our parents – one observe on the lookout for security police raids. Check out the initial, detached response of US critics at the time and you’ll also stare life imitating art in ironic ways as critics retreated into their smug class and speed cocoons in an misfortune to bury Billy Jack. Yet today, given its box office numbers and its massive international impact, Billy Jack ranks as the best example of the intermittent disjuncture between film critics and the movie-going public. Billy Jack may seem naive now – and the experimental theatre scenes now suggest Zanuck may have been moral (for the rank reasons) to want them excluded – but its nobility is untainted. Forget the sour mumblings of mainstream critics (the same people who proclaimed Upright Lies “a quality movie”) and manufacture this immense movie a section of your collection. As a straight action movie, you’d be hard-pressed to net better contemporaries (yes, Billy Jack may have dated somewhat but has anyone checked out Bullitt or The French Connection recently? ) . As an action movie with some things on its mind other than quickly cars, ample explosions and blonde babes, I defy anyone to get me an equal. In any case, the title song (“One Tin Soldier”) by Coven is in and of itself worth the fabulous DVD rob trace. From its spectacular Mustang-rustling opening sequence to Billy’s final surrender, Billy Jack remains one of the best examples of independent movie-making at its most threatening to the Establishment. Today, only John Sayles and Ken Loach can serene lay claim to that honor. I had been looking for copies of Billy Jack and Born Losers (the orginal Billy Jack movie) for almost 15 years before discovering it for sale on this position. Since receiving my shipment, I have watched them repeatedly and not been disappointed. Neither will you.

Ever since I watched the Star Trek: Deep Situation Nine episode “Trials and Tribble-ations” abet in 1996 and saw the classic Enterprise displayed with novel effects, I dreamed about one day seeing the entire Orignal Series retouched in such a attractive intention. 10 years later, that dream came good. Granted, the series does level-headed preserve that 60’s feel (especially with the style of the music, and of course the “military uniform” mini-skirts), there was so distinguished of it that made for colossal television even for today. The effects being updated really gives the series credibility and believability for viewers and allows the fresh series to fit in properly with all the incarnations that came afterward. Bringing it to High-Definition was truly a sizable concept, and the live-action image quality is drastically improved, so great so that at times it gives the series an entirely current feel!

Agreed by both casual viewers as well as die-hard fans, the second season of “Star Trudge” provides us with a multitude of accepted episodes. Two episodes in particular that are given good treatment and amazing updating are “The Doomsday Machine” and “The Immunity Syndrome”. “The Doomsday Machine”, next to “The City on the Edge of Forever” is considered one of the best from the Current Series, even in its unrefined get. The updating on this episode save it into come movie-quality, far surpassing many Star Spin episodes, includng many from other spin-off series, and even perhaps a couple of the motion pictures. An lively conclude, to me, was how the remastering of “The Immunity Syndrome” made a not-so-great episode into a spectacular episode! The 1966 effects were genuine at the time, but the remastering gives it a whole current sense of realism and scope. Other classic episodes like “Amok Time”, “The Distress With Tribbles”, and “Mirror, Mirror” are given helpful treatments, also.

As of August 6th, I’ve purchased this spot and have been thoroughly enjoying it as mighty as I knew I would. One of the most popular complaints of one-star reviewers is that this season, unlike the previous season’s release, is ONLY on DVD, not on Blu-ray or even HD-DVD. Don’t let that discourage you. Even in this standard DVD version, Star Chase is given unusual life unlike ever before. This DVD’s visual quality is far better than any previous releases, especially since that this is a down-conversion of the cleaned-up High-Definition source. On a regular 480i/p CRT TV, it looks valid. On an HDTV, a first-rate 1080p DVD up-converter will give you an qualified report from the DVD; granted of course, it will not be the same as an HD release (no up-converter can do that, but they can win cessation) . The truth of it is that this DVD will be better than what you can gape on broadcast TV. I’ve even noticed that the standard DVD quality is better than the “HD” TV broadcasts.

There have also been those who have wondered what Gene Roddenberry would have plan of this rebuffing of the series. To retort that, here is a segment from an interview with the executive producers of the remastered project on that very question:

“What do you believe Gene Roddenberry would believe of the remastered effects?

Dave Rossi: When Gene passed away and his estate requested that all memos and paperwork from the Fresh Series through TNG be turned over, I was the person whose job it was to wade through 27 years of material. One theme that popped up with some regularity in Gene’s memos was “What can we do to improve the visual effects? ” While that alone isn’t an respond, the serve the Roddenberry family and people like Bob Justman have shown during this project really reinforces the plan that Gene was always striving to improve the effects to relieve bring the world of Star Glide alive. We’re honored to befriend fulfill that wish.

Mike Okuda: We had a number of long talks with Matt Jefferies before he died. For understandable reasons, Matt was one of our heroes. He was inwardly very proud of his work on Star Trot, but he was always very apologetic for the limitations of 1960s production techniques. He kept saying how he wished he had the technology that was developed after the indicate ended. We always responded by reminding him that his designs were a major reason why the point to remains successful and watchable to this day. At the same time, it convinced us that he would have been the first to stand in line to update his have work, if he had been able.”

Bottom Line — If you are willing to wait for the Blu-ray versions, that’s shapely. I’m not. As a lover of the Unusual Series, it’s honest too honorable to pass up. My hat’s off to to all those who participated in this unbelievable remastering inconvenience and for turning a dream of mine into reality.

The second season of “Star Trek: The Current Series” was a particularly strong one with many outstanding episodes but it also had its fragment of duds as the grind of producing a weekly TV series wore down the production team. This current remaster uses digitally restored episodes along with unique visual effects added recently. Episodes such as “The Doomsday Machine” and “Amok Time” both wait on substanially from the unique visuals. The venerable episode a tense one about an stale artifact from a long forgotten war that destroys planets features fresh visuals that compliment the memoir. The recent model for the U.S.S. Constellation which is ravaged by the planet eater was an AMC model that looked terrific at home not so terrific when compared to the Enterprise model. The visual effects crew burned and damaged the plastic model but it never looked realistic. Here you can actually leer the encourage beams where the skin was torn off the Constellation in battle. It makes the episode that remarkable more considerable and the scenes as the Enterprise speedy moves in to attack the machine survey particularly great even if they are in standard definition on this DVD.

We also accumulate duds like “The Omega Glory” where Gene Roddenberry attempts to exercise a “Rush” episode as a metaphor for the Wintry War. Gene L. Coon left during the second season which means the demonstrate lost of one its most creative writer-producers. Coon was one of the finest writers on the production team (along with D.C. Fontana and John D.F. Shadowy during the first season) during the first and second season John Meredyth-Lucas (who wrote the classic episode “The Changling” where the Enterprise’s fate hinges on a case of erroneous identity by an ragged region probe and which probably inspired Alan Dean Foster’s sage “In Thy Image”. That epic was to be the pilot episode of the unique series with most of the recent cast. When “Star Trek: The Motion Report” was build into production instead Harold Livingston (with some rewrites by Gene Roddenberry) retooled the episode into a feature film directed by Robert Wise) came on board and wrote/directed a number of very first-rate episodes filling worthy of the void left by the slack Coon.

We salvage almost all the originals special features ported over from the previous boxed site of the second season except for the text commentary tracks. We also fetch “Billy Blackburn’s Home Movies” which gives us more footage behind-the-scenes narrated by Blackburn that was shot when the prove was in production. Additionally, we acquire the “Star Trek: The Inspiring Series” episode “More Anguish, More Tribbles” with David Gerrold’s optional commentary track and the “Trials and Tribble-ations” humorous tribute episode from “Star Trek: Deep Site Nine”. There are also some extras ported over from the “DS9″ position that had this episode on it including two featurettes “Uniting Two Legends” and “An Historic Endeavor” which discusses the challenges of creating this episode, making it work as a “DS9″ episode even though it had a “gimmick” and the difficult in combining the “DS9″ crew into the primitive “Stir” episode. We also earn previews for the episodes. The menu is the same create as the previous space. Kudos to Paramount for including the other two “Tribble” episodes with the extras. While it didn’t cost them worthy to include they could have given us NOTHING.

In space of a booklet we net the individual plastic cards that have a picuture on the front from an episode on that station along with details on the relieve about the episodes and extras. I don’t like the cards although they are a clever belief. Which brings us to the flimsy packaging. The plastic case would be broad if the hinges weren’t so splendid and broke so easy. The obtain is intriguing and the intent was capable but the execution was lacking.

The scrape with this position though is simple–this was originally to be a dual sided DVD/HD-DVD combo. While the HD-DVD format may be tedious, Paramount went ahead and feeble the two sided hybrid discs that they had purchased for the previous season plot to form these but didn’t build anything on the “HD” side of the disc except the same disc info as on the previous place. I understand that Paramount was reluctant (with their funding from Toshiba pulled who paid Paramount for the odd rights to release this to HD-DVD) to continue on but they should have finished what they started for HD-DVD owners. If nothing else, Paramount should have effect episodes on the flip side with the unusual visual effects so fans could concept either version of the indicate.

I’m disappointed that Paramount didn’t save together a Blu-ray version in time to coincide with this release but I suspect they recognized that many fans will prefer this AND the Blu-ray so they could double dip. The HD masters were probably already prepared so they should have advance out at the same time.

Regardless, this is a dazzling season with some episodes sporting novel visual effects that execute a contrast while others they are mere decoration. The extras are stunning but Paramount should have included the current episodes with the new visual effects or the HD-DVD versions. They also should have released this to Blu-ray at the same time. Recommended but with hesitation because you honest know a Blu-ray version is in the pipeline.

Put the children to bed, unplug the phone, rep out the tissues and refuse to peruse this movie with anybody who likes to talk during a movie. You will be blown away.

Holocaust and comedy. Two words never spoken in the same breath before “Life is Stunning.” To smiply notice this movie as such, would do it injustice. Every emotion comes into play during the viewing. You soon commence to empathize with Roberto Benigni as he portrays a father trying to withhold the harsh realities of a German concentration camp from his young son. Benigni protects his son with two weapons that the German’s could not seize: Humor and Imagination.

I thoroughly enjoyed this movie, and yes I cried. But I also laughed and smiled.

I recommend the Sub-title version of the movie. After five minutes the reading becomes natural and the depth to which you become interested with the movie is well worth it.

I so enjoyed the music in this movie, that I purchased “Tales of Hoffman” by Offenbach. The second playing of this portion in the movie will not allow you to have dry eyes.

When Roberto Benigni burst onto the Hollywood scene with this acclaimed film and his over-the-top enthusiasm, I couldn’t bring myself to glance this film. Instead, I waited for the DVD. However, what I perceived as hype was truly deserved. “Life is Pleasing” is a wonderfully inventive record that seems novel even today, years after its first release. Fragment slapstick, allotment drama, fraction romantic comedy, fragment tragedy – this fable of an Italian family during the Holocaust defies categorization.

The films opens with Guido (Benigni) and his friend arriving in town on a car with no brakes and being erroneous for facist officials expected for a parade. This slapstick scene ends with Guido catching the future adore of his life, Dora (Nicoletta Braschi), as she jumps from a barn window. The clownish Guido sets out to earn her heart despite the odds against him. These early scenes space the stage for the rest of the movie: Guido will rely on invention, humor, and persistence to protect his loved ones despite the obstacles he faces. What begins as slapstick becomes heartbreaking later. Like all stories of the Holocaust, this film has its grim side, but Benigni relies heavily on exaggerated humor, running gags, and an early circus-like atmosphere to plot up the emotional power of the time’s reality. Most of the atrocities are implied, not witnessed, and the viewer’s occupy knowledge of the time period creates an additional layer of tension.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Life Is Beautiful! Click Here

Roberto Benigni is advantageous as Guido; his antics are hilarious, but during more dire moments, emotions flash across his face, revealing both the depth of his character and the reality of his spot. Nicoletta Braschi is also obedient, and exiguous Giorgio Cantinini as Guido? s son Joshua is adorably spunky, especially as he questions his father’s stories.

I always advocate watching foreign films in the current language, with subtitles, but I understand that some viewers may not like “reading” a movie. In this case, however, the dubbed version was distracting, as Benigni provides the English track for his hold character while American voices dub the rest of the cast. His Italian accent amid the American accents completely broke the illusion for me. Level-headed, if a dubbed version is the only diagram you’ll peer this movie, please do it.

I highly recommend “Life is Stunning.” Its offbeat reach remains unparalleled in the canon of Holocaust movies. Because of the absence of explicit violence and sex, viewers as young as thirteen should cherish this fantastic film.

I’ve heard ample things about the movie edition for Macross Plus for a while. How it’s better then the 4 portion OVA. I’ve never gotten to contemplate it until now, and IMO it isn’t better. It feels a slight choppy in the pacing department. The novel music for the montages wasn’t as sterling as the music they had in the OVA. I don’t like that the battle scene with the VF-11B Thunderbolt and the board meeting talking about the YF-19 and YF-21 tests were slash but I like what they did with the rest. The ending is worth (at the very least renting) the Movie Edition of Macross Plus.

My biggest spot is with the portray. The video for the DVD releases for the OVA looks stout. But for the movie it looks like a VHS tape. It’s not like another company released the movie edition. I know it was achieve out for the Macross fans but it doesn’t mean the video has to leer as dreadful is it does, esp. when the OVA looked so apt. I don’t assume it can be blamed on source material. What is up with the video quality? No one is going to be using this as a demo disc.

My next spot is with the Subtitles. From what I’ve read there never was an English dub recorded for the Movie Edition and of course to do it for the dvd would cost more money (and I have a feeling it wouldn’t be that inspired anyway) . I’m resplendent with it only being in Japanese. What I do dislike is burnt in subtitles. Why oh why? It looks tacky and makes the video quality observe a dinky worst. Again, they were going for the VHS gaze I guess. The audio does sound grand though.

The extras are a laugh. The character bio’s would have been better if a fan of the the series wrote them, the photo gallery isn’t that mountainous and the rest of the extras are objective commericals for Manga. But I guess that’s what is to be expected as they are fair remarkable the same (if not the same, but I don’t feel like checking) extras for the OVA dvds. Tranquil, Macross is glowing great and it would have been nice to glimpse at least an interview with the director.

Overall I can’t recommend this disc. There is no excuse for the poor video and the burnt in subtitles. They must have ported the movie from a VHS tape and re-mixed the sound. If you like Macross I’d recommend picking up the OVA. If you are a Macross set 1 dvd completist then you’ll hold this up no matter what, impartial like me.

The best Macross since the novel. Kawamori can do no nasty(*cough*Arjuna*hack*) . This is probably the best non-epic sage he’s ever told. And the animation is some of the best, if not the best, I’ve seen outside of a feature film(even after 11 years) . What I can’t understand is why Manga Video has not added anything to the DVD for this gigantic anime, yet this is the “10th Anniversary Edition”. The fresh Ghost in the Shell release by Manga Video had few extras and no 5.1 surround track in Japanese. Their unusual GitS 10th aniversary release had many more extras and a astronomical unique 5.1 surround track in japanese. Why hasn’t Macross Plus seen this kind of treatment? Apparently they impartial threw both volumes of the OVA into a box, chop a few bucks off the fresh brand and called it a special anniverary edition. I already maintain the current DVD releases of this display and would have eagerly forked over another $40 to derive them in tubby japanese language surround. C’Mon Manga Video, you’ve had 10 years to improve the DVD’s for this display. What’s the deal?

Having followed the gleaming execute movement since its inception, most of the material in this video was not recent to me. However, the depictions are valid and really awe-inspiring–especially those in the last one third of the video. When you recognize a computer simulation of specified complexity at the molecular level, it sticks in your consciousness. Sheer monotonous luck could not have done this.

I have seen this presentation three times. Each time I am impressed with the comments of the experts and the care in which the enthralling material is presented. The subject is approached in a aloof and scientific manner. The audio clips are long enough to elaborate tough concepts. Especially telling is the interview with Dr. Dean Kenyon, a pretigious scientist and author who eventually gave up on chance and necessity as the parents of human life–and this after defending it in a well-received volume called “Biochemical Predestination.” He marvels at the nature of life and argues that a mindless universe could not have generated it.

In an age awash with slow, pointless, and sensational vidiocy, this video presentation stands out as a novel and indispensable achievement for the young vivid perform movement. One can learn remarkable from it about some things that truly matter.

When I showed “Unlocking the Mystery of Life” to my class at Denver Seminary, the students spontaneously applauded at the extinguish. Unprejudiced to add an emotive comment, it gives me goosebumps.

But please don’t impartial belief this, read about the shimmering make movement: Phillip Johnson, “Darwin on Trial,” William Dembski, “Gleaming Build,” Thomas Woodward, “Doubts About Darwin,” and many others.

It features graceful computer animations of cellular mechanics, outstanding discussions by leading scientists of the complexity of life and the problems with Darwin’s theory.

It does an admirable job of keeping the dialogue scientific, there is nothing religious in nature in the presentation and it is equally apt for showing in both the Church and the public school system.

The DVD offers some sterling bonus footage of scientists answering various questions about evolution and I.D., footage of the galapogas wildlife that Darwin encountered and list of web and book references to go to for deeper witness.

All in all a stout video to exhaust to get people consider a second time about evolutionary theory and the argument for God by accomplish.
